Hi guys, hopefully I am in the right place for a little advice?
Got a friend who has a small plant hire business, he is considering purchasing a Iveco Daily or Mitsubishi Canter tipper, with 3500kg Gvw and ability to tow 3500kg. He is getting conflicting reports on driving licence required for this combination assuming maximum allowed weights? I think a B+E should do it, but he has been told you need an LGV licence?
He would be tacho exempt as work is all local.
Thanks,
10B

I'd get him to double check on the tacho as well. From what you've said it sounds as though he's in scope of tacho rules.

3500 + 3500 = B+E licence needed

If for commercial use then more info needed as could need Operator licence and come under EU tacho regs unless any exemptions apply to either

B+E would be sufficient as it permits the driving of vehicles up to 3500kg gross carriage weight with a trailer allowed up to the total gross train weight permitted by the vehicle, In this case you will need to ensure the GTW of your vehicle is sufficient (7000kg) many vans range from 5kkg to 7kkg GTWs.

However all vehicles used for hire or reward with GTW in excess of 3500kg require an operators license to be used now. Whether or not a tachograph is required will be outlined within your O license, in cases you can get away without a tachograph if you don't travel out with 20-50miles of your registered address on your O license.
