Do these, the current shape have the EA888 engine like the Leon Cupra/Golf R etc ?

Am guessing that it is a detuned version, perhaps with a smaller turbo ? or is there more to it ?

Can they be tuned to the same levels as the above, or is it a case of needing a turbo swap ?

Yes - same engine but smaller turbo. Tuned you can get around 285/290 bhp against 360/370 bho for the Cupra, Golf R, S3.

Turbo swap needed to get more.

Rick at Unicorn seems to be doing well with the EA888 engines.

When I change I will probably go for the Leon Cupra as it gets the full fat engine, was just interested to see if the Octavia goes tot he same level but am guessing that would get expensive if it involves changing turbos.

VAG should plonk that set up in the Octavia.

not slagging the Octavia by the way, its a decent looking, well specced car and quite compelling, just if I am going the VAG route it would have to have the 300 bhp and option for more.

Probably a lot more to it than just turbo sizing. VAG are notorious for making several small changes to accommodate a change of turbo, which in some cases extends to stronger engine internals.
