Due to my age i couldn't insure a 'real' Golf R.
So i bought a 2010 MK6 TSI 122 along with a full 'R' conversion kit. Bumpers, Skirts, DRLs ,Taillights and a custom exhaust. Remapped to 145BHP.
Thoughts? I think i preferred the older black 16" rims to the new 18".

Also, has anyone else had problems with door locking? Passenger side door sometimes doesn't even open at all. Drivers side is the same, only works when i pop the plastic off the handle and use the key.

Pics of conversion below - let me know what you think.

Surely after declaring all that it would be cheaper to get insured on the real thing?

Couldn't even get a quote on a R. I must admit it wasn't cheap to declare the mods!

You know you need a double 'plip' of the remote to undo the passenger door? I.E. one click for driver's door, 2 for passenger and boot.

Battery might be flat on the remote, but then it usually stops working altogether.

Did you declare the mods?

Gti with R kit not float better?

I really like the Mk6 R wheels, what colour is the car. The R wheels in gloss black look pretty good.

Declared mods would be higher than Gti insurance, guessing you haven't actually declared them?

I don't see where the conversion pictures are. I'm not sure if the mods would be too much more than normal insurance. Young people don't like declaring mods, I hate that.
I can't assume that the mods aren't declared, but why don't people just buy cars they can afford to insure!

In 12/24 months' time, the R insurance might have been viable, but your car will always be worth LESS (to most people) for having all the bodywork mods than an un-modded version.

Good luck with the project, each to their own, but as others have said, probably not really a cost effective thing to do.

(Can't see pics)

Conversion looks good, a nice oem+ upgrade from the standard look.
