Hi
Been looking at purchasing a chimaera so I have phoned for a insurance quote , I have just been quoted £357 for a 5ltr with a limited 3000 miles policy by classic line does this sound reasonable. It is not my daily driver as I have another vehicle ,I will phone round other company's just wondered if this quote is what's to be expected ,having never insured a chimaera before .

Without knowing your full history (points etc.), where you live and whether or not it will be parked on the road, full comparisons are difficult. How many cars you have, how many and the age of the named drivers etc.
That said, I'm with Classicline and mine is a 4 litre, and I've been happy with the cover, but that quote seems a bit steep.
I could insure mine with Direct Line using my NCB and drive it every day for less than that.
It's possible the 500 is quite a bit more to insure now, of course because of the greater value.

As the couple of posters above have pointed out, try Footman James too.
They covered me on a Chim 400 for an annual mileage of 5000 miles including commuting cover and 10 days European cover for £260. That's at age 31 with a clean insurance history (although they pointed out they didn't take NCB into account on a classic policy).
That quote was almost half what Classicline quoted for similar cover but with even less miles.

Ft James tends to be cheapest currently, but check the details of the cover you are getting, and if you need the extras that add to the cost. I find the The biggest omission on ft James is Ncb protection if you have already built up some years. With them that will lapse and you will be back to square one. Although it has no effect on the policy with classicline, they can protect it so you can use it elsewhere later. They covered me on a Chim 400 for an annual mileage of 5000 miles including commuting cover and 10 days European cover for £260. That is true- although it isn't an issue for me as the Chim is my second car so my NCB is still being used on my ordinary policy for my daily car. It would just be an issue for those for whom it's their only car.Squirrelofwoe said:

I agree it's isn't an issue in that set of circumstances but some people have built up multiple ncb on non classic policies for more than one car, myself included, likewise any ncb you build up on your chimaera is not going to create a ncb for use on another car later should you change.
Good points
It's mostly about third party risk and theft cover, insurance. The performance of a TVR is slightly higher than a VX Cresta. Granted the nickability isn't as high as other fast cars, most people wouldn't even know how to open the doors on the later models. Or, to my amusement, how get out once they're in!
My cover was only just over £200 with Classicline with restricted mileage, but I'm genuinely really surprised it can be got for under £100. Fort Knox garage perhaps? I haven't even got one.
I wonder if it includes Europe-wide breakdown cover though. That on its own would be quite a price.
