My Maserati GranSport is tucked away for the winter so I thought I would address a small coolant leak it had.

It looked like it was the bottom hose, so I ordered a new one. Took the old one off, sure enough it had gone hard around one edge and obviously was no longer sealing.

So I've replaced the hose using new clamps (worm, and OEM part), refilled with coolant ran it until hot, opening the screw on the block to get air out, all fine.

The car is not sitting in the garage and keeps doing some very small drips from where the top of the bottom hose seals. I've tightened the clamps as much as I can with a 7mm hand tool (not with a socket) which feels like it should be plenty. I've done this kind of job a few times before on other cars and never had a problem. Is there some kind of sealant I need to be using?

Cheers

Was the spigot in good condition? Often I find by the time the hose connection has degraded enough to leak, the spigot has also corroded and/or got bits of shredded hose stuck to it which need to be cleaned up before fitting the new hose.

As above. But if the spigot is worn and corroded I've had success with fitting 2 x hose clamps.

It's Italian, it's supposed to leak.

You don't say what sort of hose you're using, but I've found that silicon hoses tend to relax when they've got hot and need retightening, sometimes several times on successive heat cycles, before they stabilise.

What was the condition of whatever you're putting the rubber hose onto ?

And are you sure there simply isnt another leak elsewhere ?

And often a cause of leaks, is people going nuts and overtightening clamps...especially if into soft alloy housings like an alloy rad, or worse plastic.

Thanks all. It was originally leaking from the bottom of the hose going into the rad, and that bit now seems fine.

I'll loosen it off and reseat it, see if that works. Not that keen on draining it down again but if I have to...
