Passat R36 V R32
Discussion
After 5 great years of ownership I have decided to sell my Passat R36. This is a great car and very underrated by a lot of people. Certainly quick enough and lots of toys. Fantastic cruiser and in my view the ultimate Q car.
Took it to a garage recently and they didn't even know they existed. I can't believe they sold so few in the UK but that was the appeal to me and they seem to be holding their value very well.
I went from an R32 to the R36 and apart from the noise the R32 made I have much preferred the R36 (probably on my own here). For B road driving my previous cars were better than the R32 and the R36 is a great cruiser so it wins for me.
Thinking of returning to a Mini as no longer need the space but any other fun cars people would recommend looking at. In the past have had Mazda RX8, Mini (New and classic), Peugeot 205 gti and a Westfield.
Suggestions welcome

My wife has a JCW Countryman for family duties and I had a 2 day shot of a jcw hatch and really liked it.
I fancy a change from VW as my wife had a golf gti and I have had the R32 and R36 so don't want another VW at the moment.
I'm am also not that keen on BMW's. Not sure why as I have driven quite a few but just never appealed other than the Z8 but that is not going to happen!

Probably a Golf R. It does the cruising and B road tasks equally well and way faster than the R32 and R36, if that is a priority.
Going from a smooth cruiser Passat to a bumpy little boom box Mini, are you sure about that?!
S3 is a better car than the R, and the interior is nicer as well.Going from a smooth cruiser Passat to a bumpy little boom box Mini, are you sure about that?!

From what I hear it's nowhere near as much fun as the R to drive. Too locked down, sterile and numb in typical Audi fashion.

Is your R36 up for sale? Is it the estate? PM me if so! Took it to a garage recently and they didn't even know they existed. I can't believe they sold so few in the UK but that was the appeal to me and they seem to be holding their value very well.

Agreed on the interior, but in what other way is the S3 'better' when it's the same car mechanically, aside from spring and damper rates?

There are a couple of S3's at my work but they were bought for fashion rather than driving reward. I would lean more to an S3 just because I have had 7 years of VWFrom what I hear it's nowhere near as much fun as the R to drive. Too locked down, sterile and numb in typical Audi fashion.
