If trucks run like this we get pulled.
I have seen hundreds like this today .
Is it deliberately done by some these days.

That's some impressive road holding, that gradient is beyond 1:0.

Cars get stopped to! I stopped 4 yesterday. All were issued with a wet wipe or a £100 fpn. They all took up the option of taking a wet wipe.

To answer your question - they only get away with it for as long as it takes for a random Police patrol to a) spot them b) have the opportunity to turn around and c) have time to actually stop them, the same as other numberplate offences really. Less Police on the roads & lower budgets = less "soft crime" can be dealt with.

You should charge them £100 for the wetwipe.

There is a defence in law with regards an obscured number plate that may well be applicable. The evidence that was required was that the mud was dry.

“Number plates are an indispensable part of everyday enforcement. “We have speed cameras; we have red light cameras; we have all sorts of cameras that are used for enforcement - all of them depend entirely on reading the registration of an offending vehicle."

Not that is a compelling reason smile

How often should one wash a car at this time of year OP? Mine was cleaned on Saturday, not used Sunday. By the time I'd driven 30 miles on Monday I needed to clean the plate as it was completely opaque again.

We clean lights indicators and number plates as part of our daily checks .
One less thing to attract the bumble bees .
We do feel so special having our own roads police .
As for washing ,gets done when dirty.

Sometimes it needs doing more than once a day... My car was clean when I started...

I ended up having to buy face cleansing wipes, to get something moist enough to be effective (cheaper than wet wipes!)

Good to see all the rapists/burglars/drug dealers in your area have been caught and locked up.

It just has to be shear stupidity, if you are going to risk points and a fine at least do something worthwhile !

If they can't be arsed to wipe their plate what else don't they check ?

How do they see if the car is marked and commonly used by said drug dealer / burglar if the plate is obscured??

It helps to ID their cars if the number plate can be read.
