Hey everyone I am just wanting someone to confirm something biscally I've got this car and I sent it into the garage for a full service and a change of glow plugs due to it struggling to start especially when cold the garage has sed that if they change them it could end up costing me near on a thousand pounds because it could damage the engine when they take the old ones out but they sed they will crack them off replace them and fire it up to see what happens that just sounds CRAZY you send your car to garage to get fixed not to come back worse or even a total loss. It's only covered 92 thousand miles. Are they correct in what they are saying or is that just ridiculous??

Not been explained very well, as I understand it,,
Taking glow plugs out can be a problem, there's a risk they will brake when you try to remove them.
This leaves part stuck in the cylinder head and that's costly to repair.
If they come out then the new ones won't cause any probs.

Thanks for that and is it a common thing for that to happen? Fingers crossed it will be fine.

Very common for glow plugs to sieze in the head unfortunatly, it can go perfect and cost under £150 or go wronge and cost 5 or 6 times as much due to all the extra work to remove the broken part, the glow plugs are rather thin and hense weak frown

Should be ok, they don't usually snap on that engine due to it being a cast iron head, Aluminium heads cause the most trouble.

If you use a spray of easy start or similar does it fire up? It might help to try and narrow down whether it is an electrical issue or fuel issue.
When my car had a starting issue it turned out to be faulty crankshaft position sensor - the car did not know it was being cranked over and so did not inject fuel to start the engine. It was intermittent and normally only when left for a few days.
