I try not to be envious, I've got a fantastic life, but every now and again I can't help it.
When I was a little kid it was of anyone bigger than me, then when I was a teenager it was of anyone who had a girlfriend, then when I started driving, it was of anyone with a better car, then for a lot of years it was down to money.
Now the only people I'm envious of are the ones who are my age or younger and have managed to retire. Sign of getting old I think.
What about you?

Only skills, welding, woodworking etc.

But it gives me the drive to learn those things myself.

In 1985 - People who could do wheelies.
In 2017 - People who can do wheelies.

For 12 glorious months I could pull a wheelie on my Mountain Bike (well, a manual actually which is harder) then I had a big crash (not whilst doing a wheelie) now my right arm can't go straight so I can't get my weight back enough and I'll never wheelie again, I suppose I could moan about the constant pain, the occasionally trying to reach for things and running out of stretch which makes you look retarded or the way shop people look at me when it seems I'm trying to drag them closer to me because I won't reach for my change - but really it's the wheelies that bother me.

Ill-gotten gains from his father's criminality and paid for company from an array of escorts seeking adoration via instagram. Hmm.

I'd be more envious of someone who was self-made and attracted women with blessed good looks. I'd also wager it would provide a whole lot more satisfaction.

I try not to be envious, envy being one of the seven deadly sins and all that ...

But envy, in the context of 'admire': great guitarists.

At 44 I am plodding my way through a few chords, making slooooooow but steady progress, I am far better than I was a year ago.

Those who seemingly play without needing to try (I know, years of practice), I do envy them.

Got a new bike after about 10 years without one, back in the day I could wheelie indefinitely. Turns out that wheelieing is not like riding a bike. First one I tried was fairly successful, until I pulled the rear brake to drop the front wheel down. I was also pulling the front brake, so as soon as the front wheel hit the floor I was catapulted over the bars damaging my brand new bike and my ankle. Best bit was the mrs saw it all...

Youth

The chance to be young again.
Id wager that without the wisdom of age i would still blow my life up occasionally
So i guess my envy is probably borne of regrets/missed opportunities.

Also would be nice to have working knees again

Possibly my old man, (and mum) paid mortgage off this week, retiring at 60ish and will have a pension equal to or greater than his current salary plus he will get cheap flights with BA for pretty much the rest of his days. I'll be lucky to pay my mortgage off on a house half the value but unlikely to retire early or be anywhere near my final salary. Obviously happy for him really.

- People who can play the guitar.
- People who can speak another language.
- People who have learnt a trade (carpenter, electrician, car mechanic, etc)

Although I am slowly trying to tick some of them off...
- I've borrowed a guitar and a 'teach yourself' book.
- I'm slowly building up a collection of tools in the garage and am figuring out what they all do wink
- In a couple of years time we'll hopefully move to a bigger place where I can store a 2nd car as a project
- plus... Mrs CC is currently learning Spanish, if that counts biggrin

Same here. Father in Law retired at 55 and has spent the last 20 years having two holidays a year, playing golf and generally enjoying life. Mother in Law never worked.

My mortgage won't be paid off before I'm 60 and despite paying into a pension for 20 years it won't give me anywhere near enough to pay for foreign holidays etc...

People who embark on a time-unlimited, round the world overland expedition.

It's the freedom from having to work I love most but when it's coupled with the perpetual travel and self-sufficiency... well, from my desk at work, it seems to be a wonderful utopia.

Why? The end result's the same.

The first time I've seen my one accolade in a list like this!

Languages, that is. I should use them more - I barely ever do.

In all honesty ,nothing.

There are skills I would like to acquire and if I have enough talent I can be moderately competent at many things I would like to be a better track driver and take instruction periodically ,but I know realistically that I will not ever have the natural talent of a great driver for instance, but I am well aware that there are people who are brighter, better looking, richer, younger, achieve more meaningful progress and so on than I will ever do, and I wish them well, The world is not evenly divided and would probably be immensely boring if it were.

There are people who have more challenges and struggle more than I do also, who have health problems, career problems, family issues and so on. I in no way feel superior to them, nor do I feel inferior to those who have done better. You cannot live someone else's life, just your own. I have a certain drive to reach some personal goals, but they are for myself, not to deal with envy at all. There will aways be someone ahead of you.

The pleasure and satisfaction is in the journey, not just the outcome. Possibly also why so many lottery winners are unfulfilled in a short space of time. There are studies on this sort of thing and if I remember rightly its about a 2 month - 6 month period of euphoria. I personally wouldn't feel too happy with life living off dad's money stolen from others and in the knowledge the company I was surrounded with was paid for and disingenuous. To each there own though.
