Good evening gentlefolk,

I have had my 2005 Audi S4 avant for five years now and has been probably been my favourite car to date. But the time has come for a upgrade have tested a few out BMW 640d m sport, Merc Cls 350d and the 3.0 S5 but not the S4 I've got about £25000.00 to spend and its come down to these two but still can't make my mind up, I'm testing a 2013 s4 next Wednesday so may know more then, I was interested to know what current owners thought fors and against.

Well, one's a coupe and the other's an estate. That aside, they're pretty much the same under the skin.

If you prefer low-key looks, or need to carry dogs/stuff to the tip, then an S4. If you prefer coupe styling, then S5. Simples.

That's the problem I'm obviously used to the space of my avant but after 5 years feel I should have a change....
Ideally could do with someone who's owned both who can talk about handling etc the test drive in the S5 was only 15 minutes with the rep looking pensive... so couldn't really be to adventures

Haven't driven an S5, but given the basic platform is the same as the B8 S4 I'd expect only minor differences. I think S5 has slightly wider track, and gets 19" wheels as standard (option on S4). Look for cars with the sports diff and/or dynamic suspension options.

I'm sure a few people on here went from the V8 S5 to the 640d. It really depends what you want from the car I guess, a diesel will never be as fun or sound as nice as a petrol! But for a comfy long distance cruiser with decent MPG and performance on tap when you need then maybe that's the right one to go for.

Food for thought, I'm obviously used to around 20mpg so even if I went s4 or s5 I'm expecting a few more.... I don't need the space of the avant as the missus has a Toureag so at the minute I'm edging towards the S5 coupe, after saying that I'll probably change my mind again when I take the s4 this week.

On a separate note Louth Volksworld are a Revo authorised dealer, has recently done a b8 s4 saloon on a stage 1 and was raving about how much better the performance was. I think this will probably be the plan after a few months ownership.🤔🤔😃
