I suppose the title could read, hands up if you're a numpty, but in good taste we wont poke fun at you until after everyone has posted 
In a sudden change of tack, I'll be the first one to hoist my handshaped appendage skywards, and admit that I bought 2 bottles of coke for £500 18 months ago.
The car scams seem easy enough to spot, given that most nigerians written english is about as good as the average 6 year old.

Once bought a "one owner" low mileage Honda Accord hatchback (the really old ones!) many years ago from a back street dealer for £600.....
Worked a treat until come service time and it needed £800 worth of engine work - basically the car was worthless....
Then, went out and bought a Polo three door hatch/estate. Loverly little car with slightly odd high-speed handling. Turned out to be a write-off and worthless again - only discovered when I came to trade it in for a Golf....
Not had that much luck with cars really. Couldnt be happier to have company cars though - not my problem and certainly NOT my pocket.
Oldest game in the book and I lost out twice!!!

I had a bad debt and paid a company £200 to get it back. Needless to say they did practically nothing and were based in Liverpool... the Nigeria of the North.

Anyone who approaches you asking for money up front is probably a scammer.

My ex lost her car through getting a call from a so called trader who offered to sell it for her on commission. She mithered me till eventually I said "Do what you like". About a week after she dropped the car off she was getting grief for the logbook so posted it to the guy. When she told me I went ballistic and we headed off down there. Car was gone and er indoors believed the little scrote about it being away having a fone put in it. I didn't and called cops. 34 people lost their cars and the only person who got his money was a guy with a Harley. He turned up at the meeting with the other owners and the barrister who was proposing to reclaim the cars. The Harley guy shoved a shotgun down the guys throat and got his money. The rest either did not bother to chase it or failed in the litigation. The little scrote got 3 months in nick for forging an insurance document. He had away over a hundred grands worth of cars, all of which went to Liverpool. It hits home when you meet the other victims, some of these people were completely unrealistic about the value of their vehicles and ultimately their greed cost them.

I have to say that I got scammed big-time when I bought my first house just over two years ago.
Got a letter through the post asking me to pay the best part of £1000 a year the ensure I was safe in my own home, my neighbourhood remained tidy and crime free, and that I would be treated if I fell seriously ill.
I was a little concerned by the implications of not paying, so started sending my money straight away.
I now realise that this amounted to little more than extortion from a local gangster named Bromley Council but unfortunately there is nothing I can do about it now I've started paying.

There was an e-bay sale of an X Box. Can't remember how much it went for but all the buyer got was an X Box box and e-bay upheld the sale because the description was of an X Box and not a games consul. Statements like 'Imagine how envious people will be seeing you walk down the street with this box under your arm'
I got stiffed for over a grand by a customer who didn't pay his bills, closed the company he owned, and started up elsewhere. This was more than 7 years ago.
