2005 997 C2S valuation

I am thinking about selling my 997, but I am struggling with the price, some input would be appreciated. I am thinking of selling as I have taken a new job with a 70 mile daily round trip and don't want to use the Porsche. Likely to replace with something newer, perhaps still a 911 or maybe RS6 or Alpina.

The car Is a 2005 car with 33000 miles from new. I am the 3rd owner and it has full Porsche service history, and a nice thick file of recent work, including
- new engine fitted only 1800 miles ago by Porsche. This is still under warranty until May and cost a small fortune!
- New Tiptronic gearbox cables
- New PCM
- New battery and alternator

The car is Atlas Grey, with 5 spoke Carrera Classic Alloys. It has Sports Exhaust, rear wiper and Sunroof. It is a low mileage car in really great condition.

The other option is to hang on to it, especially if the 997 prices are on the up. I would store it or just put it on a very low mileage insurance policy, but that would then potentially limit the ££ available for the replacement.

should think the 997 would handle the 70 mile commute just fine.

Have been using my car which is the same but manual for a 100mile commute and it's fine, I like to swop cars so have bought another but will still drive the Porsche to work a few times a week.

Don't think the super low mileage will get you that much of a premium, better to use and get the benefit.....

Oh and on the value, tricky one, 997.1 even super low mileage seem to be capped at £30k, and it's tip but should be £25k+ lots around at the moment though so again better to keep.

This is a conundrum.

If I'm reading this right the engine is 2,000 miles old whilst the rest of the car has done another 31k miles. Normally you'd think that is a good thing, but I think on resale people are a little funny about such cars even though the most expensive component in the car is practically brand new.

I would look at the classifieds to see what similar cars are going for, £25k would be about right I would think and you should get a premium for the new engine.

Like somebody else mentioned earlier, there's not much premium for low mileage (unless it was low like 5,000 mile garage queen - check out the website of Sterlings Porsche to get an idea) because the car is still 12 years old and things like paint, metal and rubber deteriorate over time due to the elements.

Unless you really want to change cars, I would keep this and enjoy driving it. Get the Porsche warranty for ultimate peace of mind - thought not sure you can on a 12 year old.

If you are still keen on selling try and get a valuation from OPC and independents like 911 Virgin or RSJ if you're near London. They will give you honest advice around sale price.

I'd wager a specialist would offer you 18-19k for that car.

Why dont you want to do 70 miles a day in it? Thats about 16k miles per annum. Car will be fine if looked after properly.

This will make very little difference to its value, and certainly WAY less than buying something newer!

Its probably worth about 25k now depending how you sell it. In three years it will still be worth near 20k with 80k miles on it.

Sounds like cheap motoring to me!

Sounds look it's time to put some miles on it, many would give their right arm to be in your position. 78,000 miles of enjoyment had out of mine the same age.
