Looking at changing my daily driver. Boring I know but the new astra k appears to be getting good reviews and I can get ex demo cars with around 6k miles for nigh on half of list price. I do about 13/14k miles a year and the sri 1.6 cdti seems to be the best all rounder. Anyone here have one.

IMVHE....having run a number of them over years...

Built down to a price. Every Vaux Ive owned has needed a crank sensor, had ABS and or Tickover issues.
The cabin quality is poor and the metal used in them just felt cheap.

I will no own another after now.

Hey Kuro, I personally have a the "J" shape Astra in 2 litre cdti sri trim.
Why did I buy it? I think it's a very good looking car, a decent sized boot big enough for 2 buggies and the weekly shop and the seats come down for bigger loads. It was cheap and I was on a strict budget, its cheap to run, comes with 165hp which is more than enough for me.
Yes they may be perceived as boring cars but for the moment mine does everything I need of it perfectly.
Also I had the rear bumper fall off in adverse weather late last year but ignoring that, general build quality is very good.

The newer shape is a very good car and personally I think, great value for money.
Good luck

That's what I have at the moment and for me it's been a great car, well screwed together and no problems at all in 50k miles. Its probably the reason why I'm looking at the newer one. I've had a short test drive in one but just looking for opinions of long term users.

Thanks for that. I did think about the 1.4 turbo with the way things seem to be going with diesel but I do a 75 mile round trip commute so the diesel would work out cheaper in the long run. I was a bit concerned about dropping from 165hp to the 136 in the new one but they've shaved about 200kg in weight so it felt just as quick on the short test drive. I have an ex demo in red with 18 inch wheels being moved down to Plymouth next week. I'll be taking this one out on an extended test before committing.

astras and insignias appear to be massive value used, especially in 2.0 CDTI form.

i would expect some shortcomings but in terms of overall bang for buck they seem to be great.

I've had my new Elite Nav 1.6T 200ps for a couple of months now. Have to say I'm very impressed with it. It has a decent turn of speed as is comparable to the 2014 Fiesta ST I had before. 0-60mph in 6.6 seconds but looks like a bog standard hatch, no spoilers skirts or big alloys here. Handling is also pretty good, corners flat and feels light on its feet. Interior is very nice, all the toys you could want and a decent sounding infotainment system with 8" touch screen. It's also averaging 42mpg according to the trip computer.

Never thought I'd say this but I'm a very happy Vauxhall owner.

I'm going to be looking for an estate one of those at some point (I have the Astra H equivalent). I can't find any just looking around!

Do you own it yourself? Might work out if you're looking to move it on around the time I'm looking to replace mine

Unfortunately it's on a lease deal. Got a real bargain, 3+23 months 12,500 miles a year for only £215 a month. Not bad for a 22k car. Not sure if they are still available at that price though. Last time I looked it was around £300 per month for the same deal.

That's pretty good. Where did you get that from? Just having a look out of interest

Got it from here. Just looked and the model I have is now £303 a month. There are better deals on lower spec versions.

Still waiting for the car to turn up as it wasn't put through the networkQ prep but sould be here Monday. It's given me a bit of time to look around at the alternatives but from what I can see nothing else comes close for the same kind of outlay.

I recently test drove the new astra 1.4t sri auto and found it a very good drive, certainly nippy enough and very nice inside.Lease deals dont seem to good due to poor residuals but buying nearly new seems a good bet (under £15k for a nav/metallic with low miles at Vauxhall dealers) if you plan to keep it for a while.

I havent owned a Vauxhall since my Senator/carlton gsi/cavalier sri days but im tempted...
