Fun to drive?

The thing is I saw on another thread that new cars are not too fun to drive. My question would be, what do you think is a budget fun car, for driving experience anyway?

I never owed one but I would think something like Mk2 MR2, Mx5 ...?

Basically smth that can be owned for max 2 grand. (I'm poor I know)

Ford Puma 1.7 if you can find a decent one.

Most fun I've had on the road has probably been in a 1.0 Citroen Saxo... I imagine I'd enjoy some of the pokier warm hatches with normally aspirated engines.
