Help settle a CV question

A mate has asked me to look over his CV, he has included some courses he did about 20yrs ago, 1 day finance and/or management courses.
I'm not sure he should bother with them, being so long ago but he's adamant they should stay.
He's never worked for large organistaions but would be mid level management if that matters.

If there is no refresher or further training that supercedes those courses then list them but omit the dates.I'm not sure he should bother with them, being so long ago but he's adamant they should stay.

His CV is currently spilling onto a 3rd page, his current position has been 19yrs!
No training in last 19yrs, just experience at the coalface as he puts it!
He's a lot like me, he has no real formal quali's in anything, just has some common sense & a decent work ethic, just how best to project that to a prospective employer via his CV.

But surely at interview they will ask when he took the courses, does he then say it was 20yrs ago?If you are smart enough you will elaborate your answer to show what was learnt, how it has been applied and what successful outcomes you can demonstrate. You can still demonstrate continuous learning by even critiquing some of the tools or theories learnt. It may be that some of them have evolved or been superceded by new thinking and you can and should demonstrate how you have evolved your approach too.
Ditch them unless 100% relevant to the role he's applying for.
If they're not relevant, then get on line and do some relevant training now and add that. Easy to get three useful entries over the next week in order to fill a gap.
Key message: as a minimum, ensure you add something relevant to the CPD part of your CV each year then you both learn and keep your CV current.

Identify the training needs or objectives first before choosing a course. Alison.com has free modular and online courses. I have to admit an interest in this too, though I run my own small company it would be good to broaden my horizons.
