I'll be there with a friend of mine who is new to Track Days showing him the ropes...and taking him round the circuit!

First Track Day of the year! Woohoo! Can't wait.

My poor BoxS's tyres are cringing in fear even as I type...

I can assure you, Melv, that the yellow GT3 was dispatched shortly into the next session. Actually the next one was my last one and I actually got in some quick (for me!) laps with loads of free track around me.

Don, it sounds like you had a great day!

How do you rate Combe in comparison to other tracks you do....I have done it twice but not for 2 years..I have sort of over looked it.

Yes it was a great day, thanks. Sun shone. Porsche people were happy. Nice.

I quite like Combe...

Good things about Combe in comparison to other Southern circuits are:

a) Its cheap
b) The "Tavern" circuit restaurant does the best grub at a circuit I've ever eaten. Really homely, delicious stuff. Not greasy, crappy burgers and sausages or overly posh "hospitality" food. Wonderful.
c) The track itself has an entertaining range of corners including the classic Avon rise, Quarry section for sphincter clenching fun!
d) The area around Combe is lovely - makes for a nice weekend away if taking SWMBO.

Bad things about Combe are:

a) Its largely flat and featureless, its definitely not scenic and the track is bumpy - not "undulating" - postively bumpy in places which unsettles the car. It may be a challenge to deal with that but I reckon its slightly less fun because of it.

b) Its a very exposed site with no shelter. There are no pit garages as at Silverstone/Brands (or room to develop them, either) so Track Days in the sunshine are grrreat! Track days in the piss wet or cold and nasty involve lots of sitting the car waiting for your next go....PCGB don't actually have "session" times in the hour at Combe so you need to be within sight of your car the whole day...not so good when its raining.

On the whole, though, you get what you pay for - and I simply wouldn't miss Combe off my Track Day calendar for the year. Its relatively accessible for me (hour and quarter's drive - about the same as Silverstone and Brands), good value and good fun. Its also the first Track Day of the year with the club - and I'm so desperate for a hoon by then almost anywhere would be good!

Why not toddle along on one of Phatgixer's days at Combe Clubsport?

It's a really good, relaxed & friendly atmosphere with plenty of space on track and as much track time as you could ever want.

Oh, and you'll probably be able to go Lizard baiting as well.

Here's me with another Caterham convert at the last one...

I haven't booked onto later Combe days - although there are several in the PCGB calendar. I might yet - but not the April/May ones as they are full.

I'm considering a Donington day (LOVE Donington as a track - hate the long journey) and also booking on to the final Track Day of the year in late October - to try and reduce the loooooong winter wait.
