I have to admit, Barry Sheen was my childhood hero. With all that metal inside him he's practically bionic! So it was sad news to hear that he's been diagnosed with throat cancer.

London Evening Standards News Story

From what I've read, he's very upbeat but doesn't want the media attention. Our thoughts are with you Barry and hope that all goes well. Get well soon.

Throat and stomach.... mmm all we can do is wish him good luck...

It would be ironic for a man who has survived so much to be beaten my that vile disease...

Bazzer was an idol in my youth. I can even remember where I was when he had the shocking accident that effectively finished his career (over the crest of a hill and into a crashed bike he didn't even see). The man has come back from some amazing injuries.

I'd heard he had been diagnosed with cancer, and I too wish him the best of luck in his fight against it.

I heard he was not having chemotherapy but was having crystal healing and other natural medicines and was going on a weird fruit diet.

Lets hope it works.

I'd heard that too. Apparently you eat hardly anything at all for about 12 days at a time. I'm all for this positive mental attitude approach – can't hurt can it. Brave boy our Barry.

I remember once in a British GP Sheene flicking the v's behind him to Kenny Roberts who was about 1cm off his back tyre – Murray Walker: "And look, Sheen is waving to Roberts... "

Class act that Murray.

I understand he's going to be attending the Goodwood Revival this weekend.

Top chap - I hope he beats his illness.

I'd forgotten that, it was a classic moment!

1978 if I remember correctly. I was there in the Woodcote grandstand cheering him on.
