I miss shooting at the screen with a gun, as in 'House of the Dead'.

God I used to be obsessed with time crisis on the PS1 biggrin

I would suggest a VR headset is probably the equivalent these days?

I think the traditional light guns struggled with new TV tech after cathode ray tubes fell out of favour (RIP! ; )

I'm sure the PS Eye had a few light gun style games, but Ive not seen anything along the lines of House of the Dead. Not for years!

VR is probably the closest direction you can go in, but it'll painfully expensive (compared to what you're after)

Shame, as now I really want to try one again, when I used to work in an arcade it was often my game of choice!

Aye, I was going to post that light gun games don't really work on newer tvs as they don't reflect properly.

Maybe pick up an old PS2 and a CRT TV?

I've still got my PS2 and TC2 with guns but I got rid of my crt a few years ago because I couldn't bear taking it through another house move laugh.

You need a PS3, a Move controller, and the hand gun or rifle add on. I've got the hand gun and it works pretty well - there's a handful of games including Time Crisis and House of the Dead. Not sure if there is as much choice available on PS4.

The shooting with the move controllers in London Heist on the PS VR is great fun.

Farpoint and the new Aim controller also look promising.

Not sure I would splash out on a PSVR just for shooting games though.

lol I was just telling my kids about time crisis on the ps1 last night and how good it was. I assumed everyone else thought it was pants and that's why they got dropped. hehe

It would be great on these great big TVs about now.

I went the same route as iwantagta's suggestion and kept my gun game habit up with the Wii.

I wouldn't bother with Mad Dog McCree or Cocoto Magic Circus, but the other gun games in the picture are fun.

Lots of Wii remote gun peripherals, best one depends on the game as some control schemes are awkward without the nunchuk in the right place.

I find it's not quite as satisfying as CRT based light guns, calibration can be a bit off and the mechanisms on the guns aren't as crisp as you'd like.

I keep a CRT hooked up to a PS2 in the garage, good fun, but a 21" screen now seems tiny and I can't justify making space for a bigger CRT.

Hoping that we get some good on-the-rails style shooters on a VR system soon with a decent gun peripheral.

Finally got around to getting Farpoint. You are holding the gun, it feels absolutely like what you can see is what is in your hands. You can hold it up to your eye and shoot through the sights (and you don't smack it into your visor, so not sure if they are offsetting your perspective slightly or something).

If you see your shadow your head and gun are positioned and track really well.

They need to make more games that use this controller but bloody hell its intense.

Yup. yes

As you say, light guns just don't really track accurately enough for modern screen technologies and resolutions, whereas the tracking in VR is very accurate and far more applicable these days.
