Hi Guys

Bit of help needed here , I am checking/adjusting the all drum braking system on my friend's Mark 1 based Geep ready for its first MOT in a while ,have fitted new front drums (all wheel cylinders/shoes were new) and everything is fine except the brake equaliser bracket which is mounted by a strap to the axle casing ,it has snapped right next to the adjusting bolts/cable.

Is it possibly to still buy these new ? any suggestions on where I might find one , if not looks like I will have to make a new one myself.

Thanks in advance.......

Mark

Yes the rubber/canvas "strap" usually breaks in the place you say that one has gone. Not sure if they are still available. I usually convert the hand brake system on Mk1's to Mk2. This involves shortening the Mk2 rod (somewhere I have my data sheet/diagram to do with this conversion). Otherwise I have heard that you can get a similar material to the original Mk1 canvas/rubber strapping in sheet form and you then cut out a suitable replacement. Not sure if the rubber/canvas strap used on some exhaust hangers are suitable.

Sorted ! The bracket was in 2 pieces so with a bit of welding and strengthening its all back together and working , but what a battle to get all the rods/cables off and the adjusting nuts free......!
