So - number one daughter started school in September - the walk is a mile there, and unsurprisingly, a mile back. It's a countryfied walk, no roads, all footpaths in-between fields. And it is littered with dog eggs. Some the size of a snack pork pie, and some the size of a...family...pork pie, some of it bagged up and dangling from the hedgerows like it's Christmas Time at the dog's anus festival. And all of it, totally rank.

There are bins at either end of the footpaths, and signs up everywhere, but still these anti-social dunderheads leave the mess, and it makes what would be a nice walk to school an exercise in dodging the foul, mustard coloured, digested remains of whatever factory scrapings in jelly are currently being fed to these animals.

I mean - presumably whomever does this walk, then does the same walk the following day or days. Do they want to tread through the canine sphincter squirted fecal cakes themselves? Is there no sense of futurity or consequence?

The signs suggest that the fine for leaving dog mess is £1000. That's quite a fine, but I get the impression that people don't fear this fine would happen.

So this is my thinking. You go Open Season. Any civilian can apply the maximum, with proof. The full £1K. You sign up to the council, and you are given free rein to hand out dog egg tickets. £500 goes to the council, and £500 goes to the punter. I reckon people would like the odds of catching someone in the act. It might not be very long before it stopped completely....

This infuriates me. I manage clean up after my dog, it's not hard. Why can't others. There's this fking woman in my village who constantly lets her dog st everywhere. Soon I'm going to start gathering it up and go and shove the whole lot through her letterbox.

It's disgusting, I clean up after my 2. It's not fun, but it's necessary. Whenever I go out for a walk with the kids I spend my whole time looking at the floor in front of them and making sure they're not going to tread in a load. Personally I think £1000 is too lenient, they should be minced and turned into dog food.

Many years ago someone decided they couldn't be bothered to take their bags of st home with them so instead decided to start leaving them at the entrance to our shared drive. why do people go to the other of bagging it up if they're just gonna drop it?! Anyway, one day I'd had enough and stuck this on my fence, and do you know what? No more bags after that smile

I think I got my point across - had I said 'dog eggs' I don't think it would've worked biggrin

It really makes you see red, doesn't it. And I only said 'dog eggs' to avoid the swear filter. The last thing I want on my post is some fking censorship. That would drive me up the fking wall.

We were out cycling along the local canal and came across lots of dog poo bags thrown into a hedge.

Local paper ran a story on it too - http://www.wigantoday.net/news/fears-as-rubbish-an...

I was out on one walk where someone had gone out with a bag of sandcastle flags and can of spraypaint. He had highlighted every turd with a coat of luminous colour and a flag of the world. I imagine it vented his frustrations a bit.

Beautiful phrasing and and excellent subject. At least if they left the turds unwrapped on the verge they would decompose.

Our local council Environmental Health employ a part time chap specifically to deal with this the issues arising from dog mess. Obviously he can't constantly patrol every area and relies on intelligence from residents effected, to target his activities.

For instance, a report that weekday morning dog walkers are regularly fouling a particular venue, will result in targeting the area at the relevant time.
Initially he'll interact with all dog walkers, hand out some leaflets and check and improve signage if necessary. The responsible dog owners are usually happy to help identify any offenders.

If there's no improvement he'll follow up with repeated enforcement visits, targeting those that have been identified.
An ex army dog handler he's doing a good job, and we've certainly seen some good improvements in our area.

Perhaps your council have a similar scheme ?

Ironic that people are prepared to carry a bag to said sh*tting spot and pick up the turds, which to me is the grim bit and why I wouldn't own a dog.

Then rather than bin it, they lob said bag of sh*te in a hedge. They've gone to that effort so why give up at that point. If anything a warm bag of poo could make a makeshift hand warmer on a cold day!

OP, I do have to ask the question in relation to your thread title. When is there a welcome dog egg? haha

Our local council has just signed up with one of these 'Parking Eye' type companies. They've given self employed 'wardens' the right to hand out 'on the spot fines' of £80 a pop (or should that be a poop?).
Just waiting to see how that works out.

I love dogs, but I don't own one. For the simple reason I don't want to spoil a nice country walk by having to pick up its st.

I seriously cannot fathom the mentality of someone who buys an animal when they know they are not willing to clear up after it.

People are selfish.

this time of year is terrible, nothing has grown to cover the mounds of litter that the peasants of this country deposit, presumably all would claim to be proud of the country but doesnt stop them launching a Can from a car or dropping their sack of Mcdonalds st out of the passenger door.

Probably the same aholes that leave dog st everywhere, they need slapping round the side of the head when they do it.

Bloody Costa Coffee cups as well, spends three quid on some burnt beans in hot water but cannot see that putting the container in a bin is a good idea.

I go round picking stuff up on my walk, its minging and makes me look a bit mental but it is cathartic and rather than just moaning about it, do something about it, goign to join the local litter crew at some point as well.

the government need to play the pride angle in some adverts, get it mentally in the collective consciousness in the same vein.

Unless my Dog has done it in a bush I will always pick it up and dispose of properly!

For those of you with dogs, who pick up, you will understand that sometimes if in a bush it's difficult to actually get in and pick up a decent amount of it anyway so as long as it's off the beaten track I let nature degrade it.

I hate people who let their dogs do their business on the pavement

Exactly. Arguably it would be better if the inconsiderate bacensoredrds did nothing as the offending item would 'disperse' eventually, rather than preserving it for generations to come by bagging it in polythene and hanging it from a nearby tree like a fecophiliac's Christmas baubles...

Oh I do pick up the litter. I even went to the trouble of buying a litter picker. But I'm buggered if I'm picking up other people's dog st. I have thought about buying a load of bags and leaving them in a dispenser at either ends of the footpaths...
