bca are auctioning one later this month with 71k miles and what looks to be reasonable MOT and service history... what do we think its worth?

How have you arrived at that figure?

The cheapest (non-S) turbos of that age are around the £40k mark.
JZM (admittedly top-end dealer pricing) have 2 turbo S - one at £85k and one at £78k (now reserved).

Finger in the air. I was keeping an eye on the low mileage red example at £50k and scaled downward due to mileage and it's unknown provenance.

Admittedly, I didn't consider the premium for an S.

This is sub 40, and ignoring the seller (who may be brilliant - I've never dealt with them directly, but an auction surely is the lowest of the low), seems comparable?

I suspect that places like JZM or 911 Virgin would ask around the £60k mark (or more) in this climate for a 70k mile 996 Turbo S, especially if it was a manual coupe.

It's not a Turbo S but as usual is misleadingly advertised as a Turbo Tiptronic S (the tip is "s" whatever that means..)

I think I did try to identify the dealer. However, as I said before, when at auction, how would you know?

I'd imagine JZM would have a 70k manual 996 turbo S for circa £65k.

Limited number, X50 pack and ceramic brakes.

Yes.

Even still, I don't recall a straight S ever being that low. In 2014, they were only ten years old.

My recollection is that the bottom of the market for a straight non-s turbo was just under 20k, but that was for the earliest cars (2000) with mega miles and/or patchy histories and/or tip gearboxes and/or savannah interiors.

To give you an idea, I paid £35k for a 55k mile 996 Turbo S from a dealer back in July 2012. That was a September 2005 car, one of the last handful off the production line according to the chassis number, so as new as it's possible for a 996 to be. They never really got cheaper than that, although mine wasn't the cheapest on the market (there were a few private sales in the low 30s when I bought). Within a year or so they were starting to creep up, obviously they've gone a bit bonkers since.
