Range Rover with 12 cylinder engine?

Reading a book just now and came to a bit talking about "the 12 cylinder growl" from the baddies FFRR.

Has there ever been such a thing? Right now, it's annoying me more than it should in a workof fiction.

This all makes it very unlikely that an African warlord actually had a V12 RR.
Sloppy work, Mr Author, but not as bad as spreading a single story over two books with a cliffhanger ending at the end of book 1.
