I know it's been done to death on here, so I'll apologise now!

Brief history - parked where I shouldn't, got a fine, ignored it, have had countless letters, ignored them, blah blah blah.

Got one through today from their solicitors (pic below) and the one line that's giving me the jitters is the bit about us being asked to pay legal costs. The one thing that's kept me ignoring them is that it'd cost them more than the fine is worth to take it further, but this line kinda chucks a spanner in the works with that!

What are the thoughts of the masses, any experiences with it going further? FWIW, this is the first fine we've ever had.

Legal costs will be fixed at less than £100 due to the amount.

Low likelihood they'll go to Court.

Ignore it. If they issue a claim you can say you were visiting the vets to collect somebody or whatever excuse you want to use.

Just written in the usual pseudo-legal threatening language designed to scare you into paying.

They might take you to court, but it's generally unlikely.

My thoughts exactly, you take a massive chance in ignoring these letters. Not worth it for the sake of £100.

Sounds like it may be worth stumping up then frown.

The reason I have ignored it, other than the myriad advice out there to do so is that, to all reasonable view, it is outside a Tesco express. Any time I've been there it's been pitch black and i have had no reason to think anything other than it's a car park for Tesco customers. Having gone back during the day after i got the letter, it is sign posted as parking for the vets in fairness.

Outside of this, there's countless things you hear on the news about car parking criminals sending out speculative charge notices. Perhaps not safe to assume!

fk it, was hoping it'd be fine to carry on ignoring it!

Very low likelihood it'll see court.
If they do issue proceedings then offer a full and final settlement of the outstanding amount with no costs. They'd probably jump at it.
Unfortunately, as you've ignored them it wouldn't look very good in court. The court likes to see that you've at least tried to jump through their silly hoops.
Still remote likelihood they'll issue proceedings.

Damn, sorry to hear that! What do you think your chances of being slapped with a CCJ is?

The name of the lawyers is 'wright hassell'?

Really?

Sure this is not a scam firm from the original Cowboys OP? Some have been known to try this lame crap in the past.

If you parked when it was dark and the signs were not illuminated and visible then take some pictures and appeal on this basis.

OP

Get registered on pepipoo.com AT ONCE

POut everything up form the day you parked ( dont say who the driver was, but dont worry if the PPC has been told) and tell the truth, even if it eems like you are the village idiot.
They will be able to give you a lot of useful info and assitance. BUT alwaystell the truth, they dont like prevaricators or liars,

Zero. You can only get a CCJ if it goes to court, you lose, and you then fail to pay it. That letter is the usual threatening bullst intended to intimidate you into paying. Please don't cave in on this, but get yourself to pepipoo quickly for advice.

This has all the appearance of a letter before claim. Ignoring it may not sit well if this does go to court as you will look like you have been unreasonable, so take the advice from pepipoo on how best to reply to it. Do not ignore this letter.

On the basis of the threats of CCJs and enforcement when you haven't actually been to court and lost, plus their outright lies about the costs (which are capped in small claims unless you are found to have behaved unreasonably - see above...), you should also take advice on reporting these scumbags to the SRA.

If you don't solve it via the Pepipoo route and IF they do issue proceedings then defend it and ask for it to be heard in a court nearest you, (You have this right as a defendant) Depending on where they are based in relation to the court nearest you they might not turn up. If they do and you "lose" then as long as you pay the amount within (I think) 30 days it'll have no impact on your credit rating.

E.T.A There are a lot of "IF's" in their correspondence, that's a lot of variables before it even enters the court system. As another poster has alluded to above it's designed to scare you into settling.
