Do you ever stop being a "insert hobby" guy?
Discussion
Was having a chat with a mate I hadn't seen in 15+ years, we met through a love of drum and bass music, he made tracks, I dj'd.
Over the years, we have both had families, moved locations and jobs, and not the footloose and fancy free young men we once were, able to do nights out regularly and spend time on one of our passions.
Although we have moved on in life, we both still have the passion for the music we once had, but simply don't get the time to enjoy it as we used to, but safe to say, we are both still "drum and bass guys". Just discussing it with him got both of us smiling and flicking through our iTunes playing tunes we love/d.
Similarly, when I was younger I modded cars, and had a couple of cars in magazines, and I still tinker with every single car we have, though not to the extents I used to, but I am a "car guy".
I also used to skateboard a lot, and still dream away a few minutes occasionally on youtube watching videos, so still a "skate guy".
Seems like certain things will never leave you, even though your life moves in many different directions.
What "guy" are you?

I too have often wondered if I'll stop listening to the music I love, like the OP I was a dj for about 15 years. I stopped when my son was born and sold my decks and most of my vinyl, that was a sad day
Still listen to and download a lot of house music, but my mates and I wonder whether the day will come when we suddenly slap on some Fleetwood Mac and never listen to a dance record again. Either that or we'll stagger out to the porch on our zimmer frames with techno pounding from the retirement bungalow behind us. Both seem as unlikley as the other!
My only other serious hobby was football, but I'm old and my body can't take it anymore. I normally injure myself at the annual dads vs coaches tournaments and that's me done for the year. I'm living my love for football through my son playing (off to Madrid with his Academy next week, think I'm more excited than he is) and our season tickets at the mighty Leicester (not so mighty atm).

I don't think people ever really grow out of something they're really passionate about. My first big hobby/passion was aggressive rollerblading (you'll probably hate me if you were a wood pusher). But I truly believed it was a way of life, and lived it from my early teens until early 20's. I still blade now at 29 but not anywhere near as much as I would like to due to work etc. It's funny, because I remember reading interviews with pro's when I was young, and wondering if I'd still be going at their age. Now I know the answer.
I'm a man of many hobbies/interests though, as I would wager most of us are on PH. And most of my hobbies i've had for years from a young age - writing, ww2 and especially ww2 aviation, photography. Can't see myself losing interest in any of them ever. It will get harder to blade one day though

I think most of us change as we grow older, I used to do a lot of MTB'ing, something I've not done since the kids came along & most of my biking buddies moved away. I now ride a road bike, something I thought I'd never do!
My mates & I used to do a lot of body boarding, in the last 7yrs that's turned into hiking, more recently the distances have decreased & I've started wild camping instead.
Things evolve, enjoy the new stuff just as much & have great memories of what we used to get up to

There is probably plenty of Fleetwood Mac and other 60s-70s music being listened to in retirement homes now, and that would have been unthinkable a generation earlier, so I don't see why not! People often stick with the music that they grew up with.I listened to a lot of drum and bass in the early 90s as well, hard to believe that music is 25 years old now. I used to listen to The Beatles as well in those days, Il really liked it, but it seemed like really 'old' music to me at the time, but some of that was newer then than the drum and bass is now.
I wonder if 15 year old kids today think of early drum and bass as 'Dad music'?
I've been a "snowboarder" for 13 years...i'll only stop riding when I'm no longer physically capable.
As I get older I'm actually in a better position to do more trips a season, and ride more than I ever have.
also work part time in the industry, so I ride indoors for free, and get to indulge a passion for park shaping as a second job.

I'm about to start snowboarding, last time I tried I hired boots and board, but my feet killed, so going to buy some boots and give it a go. Never been a "snowboard guy", but might be soon.As I get older I'm actually in a better position to do more trips a season, and ride more than I ever have.

I suppose, you're either a passionate person or not.

Inserting is in fact the hobby of many. Stops only by age or detection.
You barsteward! I've just had to try and pretend I was coughing and not giggling while on a teleconference!
