Heading to Bristol tomorrow and have a hotel near the harbour. I was going to head to Shelton mallet for the classic car show but thinking I may stick around in Bristol with the wife. Any suggestions for nice cafes/bars for lunch and a drink. We don't have a restaurant booked either but will fancy a nice dinner later on. Anything else on this weekend that's of interest.
Cheers

What kind of food are you after? Near the Harbour I would recommend Turtle Bay but it's Jamaican food so might not be your thing.

If you let us know what kind of food can chuck some ideas up. A bit higher end I'd suggest severn She'd for food, really nice meals there but the acoustics are quite poor for chatting due to very high ceilings.

Thanks, Caribbean sounds good. I like most food if done well. Not looking for an expensive restaurant though, I saw a place called Chomp on trip advisor which looked good, burgers and ribs etc. have you been there, recommend?

I had a delicious pie in a market a few years ago when I was there for the Italian car festival. May hunt that down for lunch actually.

You'll not want for restaurants on the harbourside - there are literally dozens of them. If you want something a bit classy there's a place just a little out of the way called the Olive Shed which is wonderful, and not pricey either.

I've not heard of Chomp, a new restaurant had opened recently called Atomic Diner which is an American superhero themed Burger and Pizza joint that could be worth a look. St Nics market is definitely the best place for lunch so good work, the options are plentiful there thouroughly reccomend the Sausage and Mash stall.

Another really nice burger place on the harbour is 3 Brothers which is also next to the Apple which imo is the best cider bar/boat in Bristol.

If you are after burgers then Kongs on king street is well worth a visit. There are 4 very good bars/pubs right next to each other if you like craft beer.

Hi again
Thanks for all the tips. We had a nice day actually. The hotel was the doubletree, part of the Hilton group. Feels modern and fresh unlike the Hilton in Cardiff also has parking which is good value. We walked down towards the harbour and stopped at a place called Spicer and Cole for an early lunch/late breakfast. It sounds like a solicitors legal practice but is a really nice little cafe. Food was fantastic, great coffee, would really recommend this place for breakfast or lunch.

We wandered round the harbour and up into the old town, but headed then for a few drinks in Hy-Brasil. This place has changed names and used to be called stop the bus I believe. I used to head there when at the Italian car festival. Anyway, great bar, great music and we picked some chicken wings and sweet potatoe fries from their menu to keep us going. Both were really great and the burgers coming out looked amazing.

So later in the evening i chose the Olive shed as recomended above, many thanks for that, we were impressed. A bit of a wander off the main drags in what felt like a very atmospheric doc yard building with the old cranes outside. I love areas of cities like this anyway. Although it was only when walking back I couldn't help notice it all seems very staged. The big ships all had name and info plaques on them and seemed immaculate as if I was in a museum. Anyway, back to the olive shed.
We went for the olives obviously which were slightly dissapointing some how, nothing wrong with them as such, just not amazing olives. The starter of scallops was delicious, very well prepared and cooked, on a bed of puréed parsnip. Very good. I went for the rib eye steak which was good. The wife had the chicken in some kind of leek sauce which was also good. I would definitely recommend this place as the service, location, views and food were all worth the short walk away from the chain restaurants on the other side of the river.
Thanks again for all recommendations.

Glad you tried the Olive Shed rather than a naff chain like Turtle Bay!

Next time you visit those parts of the city try the River Station.

Alternatively Severn Shed which is next door and ten times better imo.

No chance! Shed is ok, but Riverstation a different level...
