So my wife asks me to..

Get her this blazer from A well known retailer. I go to pay, cashier says "that's £59.99"
I pay and leave. When we go home, I notice the price tag says 49.99 euros. Well that's not £59.99 is it? So she's goes back there the next day, manager says " that's the price, do you want a refund?" Wife's says no, I would like the difference back. They say they can't do that, that's the price. Wife asks for her name, then she says, she can't do that for security and walks away. Now I wouldn't care paying £100 for the item. It's about principal. What's the point of putting a price tag on , if your going to charge customers what you like? On the time of transaction, 1 euro was 85p. Not even an explanation from them, just that's the price! Shouldn't they have to convert the price into pounds using the exchange rate? What's the deal?

Was the price displayed on the item in pounds as well as Euros?
If this was a UK shop - I believe they are legally obliged to show the prince in pounds Stirling. They can show the price in Euro - but this can only be in addition to the price in pounds.

It's just annoying, and makes me so angry that these retailers can get away with this, and on top giving shoddy customer services. If you walk into a restaurant and a cocktail is £12 then on your bill its £20 what are you going to do? Pay the £20? I'm sure the restaurant will bend over backwards to rectify the problem, so you can leave a happy customer. But these idiots don't give a s
te! Still seems a small problem in the grand scheme of things.
te! Still seems a small problem in the grand scheme of things.2 facts you seem to have overlooked in your attempt to brand the retailer a shyster:
You and your wife were quite happy with the item at £59.99 until you saw the € label.
Your wife would not accept a refund, suggesting she still felt £59.99 was in fact a reasonable price for the item.
Move on.

You need to be less angry about it. A price tag is an invitation to treat (negotiate). There is no obligation for them to sell you the goods for that price, any more than you are obliged to pay what the tag says.
Once you get to the till, and money changes hands, then you have a contract. If she is happy to pay £59 for the jacket, and thats what the shop intended to sell it for then move on, life is to short

No mate, just a euro price of 49.99And underneath that, was another sticker with a price of 39.99 euros.
When my wife questioned this, the cashier took this sticker off the label. Wife didn't notice till she got home.
Really interesting to hear everyone's take on this. I have my own business, and any issues like this would be sorted there and then , to make sure customers happy.

I still would have paid for it. This isn't the point. Think of the restaurant scenario. What would you have done.
I'd have asked for the manager, not the assistant's name. Odd question to ask given what was happening at the time.I still would have paid for it. This isn't the point. Think of the restaurant scenario. What would you have done.

How is that the same thing? Both prices are in sterling.
