Hi,
I'm sure this has been asked before, but I admit that maths has never been my strong point and at the age of 46 I doubt it ever will be.

My 9 year old has some maths homework, KS3 for anyone wondering, but she's doing 11+ stuff in maths club after school. Without wanting to bother the collective about the separate ones I can't actually answer (she's stuck as well) ,is there a website that explains maths in easy bite size chunks for muppets like me?.I'm talking lay mans terms, simple and in stages.

She's been asked to solve problems involving BIDMAS which is way beyond my feeble brain I'm afraid.

Thanks in advance and if anyone is wondering, it's not a learning issue I have with maths, it's just that at school I really couldn't be bothered in any way shape or form.

It's the order in which to start working out a sum

B - Brackets
I - Indeces
D - Divide
M - Multiply
A - Add
S - Subract

So 2+3x2 = 8 as you do the multiplication before the addition.

(2+3) x2 = 10 and so on...

Is that ok or do you want more?

lol that's exactly the same question I asked!.

Sounds like it's back to school for me, going to check out the BBC website and see how I get on. Half term, I'm off with little'un tomorrow and about to destroy a bottle of 2003 Rioja.

Used to be called BODMAS in my day. Remember it from primary school, still use it to this day..

Does your daughter have access to Mathswatch via school? If so this will correlate to her topics.
