Pronunciation matters.

Transport. Translucent. Transplant. Transfix. Transit. Transpond. Trans-Atlantic. Trans-gender. Transfix...

How do you pronounce the 'trans' prefix? The American accent doesn't present this issue, but is it trar-ns as in barns or trans as in trams?

Why would "trans" be pronounced like "barns"? The A and the R are transposed... (were you transfixed by transfix?)

"Tarn" is a different word entirely - glacial lakes on mountains, or a river and department in southern France.

There is a pronunciation question - but it's simply harder S or softer - Tranz-it or Transss-port. And that's down to what sound follows it.

I think you've misunderstood what's been written.

Lots of people mispronounce all kinds of words, doesn't mean it should be considered a viable alternative.

Pacifically not this example.

If you have a Northern/mids regional accent then it is a short A.

If you have an RP/ARP accent, then it is a longer A

Yes, this.

When I began reading the original post I assumed this was the question being asked.

Pronouncing 'trans' as 'trarns' is just an affectation.

I'm a north Londoner and a company director, to boot. So, my pronunciation is correct in all instances.

It's: TRARNsport & TRARNSplant. TRANSit & TRANS-Atlantic.

You're welcome.

When I saw the thread title, and in the lounge, I initially assumed it was going to be a gender dysphoria rant...
