Boardman CX Comp - any good as a commuter?

I'm thinking of starting to cycle part way to work (approx. 10 miles) and jumping on the train at a different station to my local one.

It'll be a mixture of roads and canal tow path - I'll start off using my HT MTB but would be thinking of getting something a bit more suited to commuting.

Been and had a quick look at the Boardman CX Comp in Cycle Republic today - looks a decent bike and spec for the money.

I quite like the fact it has the dual brake levers so they're never too far away in either riding position.

Does anyone have one?

How do you work out what size? (only ever had/ridden MTB's).

My Mrs has one. She got it second hand about a year ago & other than lubing the chain, hubs re greased & a wash now & again it's been great. You'd think Halfords were smuggling lead in the frame tubes mind you...it's a weighty thing.

I had one until it got stolen last November, I put guards and a pannier rack on mine and it was perfect for lugging laptop in all weather. I switched the Cx tyres to better rolling tyres(Vittoria Randonneur pro's) as was spending most of the time on roads.

Mine was a 2014 black/blue one but the current one is almost the same spec. The Lyra discs are the weak point as they often needed adjusting.

British cycling discount and halfords regular 10% off sales make it a bargain. Don't pay full price tho.

I have no intention of paying full price - with BC discount and some vouchers etc. I recon I can get one for under £500.

Always get good feedback, sometimes its worth being aware of the cable pull discs, not they are bad, just take a bit of TLC from time to time

Those interruptor levers on the tops are brilliant things and really useful for commuting.

Have a look at the Tektro Lyra brakes. Do they have adjustable inboard AND outboard pads? If so, great, if it's just the inboard pad, well, they might be a bit of a pain.
