New career change to Lettings/property??

Hi all, does anyone have any advice on this sort of work or does anyone here work in this industry?
I'm in my late 20's and earn average wage in a job I'm not entirely happy with. I have basic school qualifications.
Property really interests me and I'm thinking of a completely different career while I'm still "young". The idea of property/commercial property/construction management sounds like my sort of thing but obviously impossible to walk straight into. The only route I can think of would be to work in a lettings agency for a couple of years earning £18k per annual. A block property manager seems to be around £30k and much more depending on experience(?) and they ask for a few years of industry/lettings experience with the potential to do NFoPP qualifications.
I have no sales experience but I believe I am good at dealing with customers, motivated and dedicated, willing to learn new things particularly if it interests me and generally very organised and cheerful. But more importantly I genuinely do love property, interior design, grand houses that sort of thing etc.
Currently I'm at a lose end and very undecided with my career and I want to do something about it before I'm too old. I guess I'm just speaking my mind here.

Enthusiasm is key; you seem to have it!
Where are you? Need to manage your expectations regards the interior design and grand dwelling bits; you'll probably get given the opposite end of the spectrum to manage as the new boy. Can you do that for a few years?

I'm near Cheltenham so I think that's where my property enthusiasm has come from; beautiful period buildings and renovations in that area. Plus I really enjoyed the whole process of selecting the interior and fittings for my new build house. I think I would enjoy managing a big residential development of an old regency building but obviously impossible to walk into this job with no experience.
Is a letting agency the right first step of a ladder? I would hope to progress after a couple of years of learning the ropes being a newbie. Advance into residential management and take it from there?

You do realise that estate agents/lettings agents are going to be in a whole world of trouble when the ban on lettings fees comes into effect? Added to all the other headwinds facing BTL and the letting market in general... S24, Basel 3, tax changes etc
It's certainly not an industry I'd be looking to get into especially with zero prior knowledge or experience.
