Out of interest…

Do the standard fuel rails breakdown over time (i.e. corrode internally)?

If so, I assume these could have an impact on injector performance and balance.

Thoughts anyone?

From what i can see internally on mine when recently removing injectors n regulator its pretty much perfect inside.

I'd have thought there's so much fuel in there there's little opportunity for corrosion to form, that and the fact fuels flowing along the rail constantly,,,, unless it's stood for long periods I suppose.

When you shut the engine down does fuel stay pressured along the fuel rail or does it drain back?

Some pumps have a non return valve then there is the regulator. I doubt either of those have a perfect seal so the rail will loose pressure but should not 'drain back' as such.

Ok, so if the rail is full of fuel we seem to be thinking that there’s no problem…

This has got me thinking a little more…

We are reliant on the fuel filter catching everything at the rear of the car but given the potential age of the pipes between the filter and the injector rail shouldn’t we be thinking of using a further inline filter just before the pressure regulator and rail to catch any unwanted crud before entering the injectors?

Belt and Braces!

Anyone done this or have any thoughts?

Would that not risk a pressure drop?
If not then I can't see why you couldn't put one in but I'm no expert! smile

Slightly off topic, but anyone know what size the Schrader valve connection is, as I'd like to check my fuel pressure.

Also wondered if any one has installed a fuel pressure sender on the rail to allow fuel pressure monitoring at load?

I used to think injectors would be very sensitive to st in the fuel but recently am convinced carb jets would be worse off.
Having built a rig to test injectors (and used it yesterday) I am blown away by the size of the fuel jet.

As you can see it is quite a torrent.
