So the concept is that via an app or their website you order either 2,3 or 4 meals per week from them (either 2 portions or 4). These can be selected from a choice of 22 meals, which are changing every week, so you can always have a "new" dish.

On your nominated day (choice of 6 days) they deliver a single box which contains all of the ingredients needed to make easy meal together with a recipe card.

Prices depend on how many portions your order, but they go down to £3.75 per box.

We have been subscribing for about 5 months now and have had 4 meals delivered every single week, we are completely hooked!

The recipes take between 20-45 minutes to cook, the instructions are really good and the food has been excellent. The ingredients, in particular the meats are really high quality (quite frankly I didn't realise meats were supposed to be like that having only bought average supermarket meats before.

It's completely changed the way my wife and I eat, 4 days a week meals become a bit of an event. I could cook reasonably well before but in the past few months have cooked 80 new recipes, the majority of which I would have never thought to try.

It's not that cheap but as with all things you pay for the experience and the convenience. This week's box arrives on Thursday so tonight I am cooking one of our previous favourites - asian style chicken in a brioche bun. I've bought all the ingredients, came to about £12 as I had to but larger quantities than I actually needed, I spent all lunchtime trying to find the various bits and I still couldn't get the chilli jam that I needed! With Gousto it all simply arrives in one box in neat little packets.

Is anyone else a subscriber?

I did the Abel and Cole recipe boxes for a while-similar but with a bit less choice. Some where good but they were not always popular with SWMBO.

I've been a subscriber since Jun 2015... Here are my thoughts in a nerdy list format!

1. Portion sizes are really excellent and most meals only take 25mins to make
2. We order 3-4 meals a week and rarely have anything we don't like. This week we had Smokey Chicken Skewers, Harissa Chorizo with white bean mash and Indonesian Chicken Rendang
3. The instructions for cooking are probably really obvious for people who can cook, but they're very necessary for me! Sometimes the instructions can be a bit vague though
4. They've recently changed the menu each week so now there are more of the "popular" items added on to the list. This is handy, but in a way it's bad as you can take the easy option and just eat something that you've had before and you know you like. Saying that, there is always something new!
6. The fish options always seem to have the same type of fish and it's not that great
7. There are a lot of meals that have couscous as a base... I don't mind that but it's quite common in the recipes
8. Sometimes the quality of the veg and the herbs is poor. Carrots that you can bend in half, herbs that go rotten in just two days. I think they probably keep costs down by buying last-gasp ingredients. Every time I've complained I've only got part of the meal for free which is annoying - and their customer support is very scripted.
9. The meals do expire damned quickly. If you have a delivery of 4 meals on Monday they sometimes have to be eaten every day to meet the use by dates. That can be a pain. Oh and sometimes I've had it where two or three of the meals expire on the same day. However all it means is you have to nip out and buy some celery or something to replace
10. I'm really not a cook... and I've really enjoyed making things without realising what I'm doing and suddenly saying "wow, this is tzatziki, I've gone and bloody well made tzatziki" (bad example but I hope you get my point!)

I have a HelloFresh voucher in front of me that I get because of my BirchBox subscription for Mrs kingBadger (Birchbox is also great) - I must get round to trying it although I think I'll be back to Gousto.

Oh and to add to the subscription addiction, I've recently subscribed to Bloom and Wild for regular flower deliveries.
