Alarm Receptacle Replacement

Any tips on replacing the Dallas Key Receptacle?
I think I might just be able to get to it though the radio aperature, to undo the nut from behind.
Then I was going to attach a cord to the plug end of the cable cable and use the cable to pull the cord through from the helmet holder.
Then use the cord to pull the cable on the new receptical back through, and hope there aren't too many snag points.
I really don't want to disturb the dash, or the transmission tunnel trim. That would simply make me put the job off forever.
By the way, how do you remove the helmet holder?
