I've managed to kerb my lovely 20 inch Turbo wheels quite badly. They are the diamond cut centre lock variety.

My local OPC wants £180 to repair it and they'll need the car for a week as the wheel is collected by another company and repaired off site.

I'm more bothered about not having the car for a week than the £180. Does anybody know of a trust worthy company in London/Essex/Herts etc where I could have it done in one day?

I'm new to Porsche but I gather these centre lock wheels are a bit of a pain to get off and can be damaged in the process. So I need someone who knows what they are doing.

Thanks very much

You can probably get a new wheel for under a grand.

Contact Chris at Excel wheels. He'll put a spare on and take the wheels that need doing away. You should always do front and rear on either side at the same time in my view as diamond cut alloys are never exactly the same after refurb.

You could try Exel (http://www.exelwheels.co.uk/), as they have a good reputation among Porsche owners - fortunately not had to use them myself, and trying to avoid damage to my centrelocks.

It's not a one day job, but typically loan wheels while yours are done. I believe the actual refurb is done by Lepsons who I have used, and are excellent.

Doubt it. nearly £700 for an 18" mk7 golf gti wheel. Wouldn't be surprised if it was around £1500, or more

Why would I want to pay £1,000 for a new wheel if I can have it refurbed for £180??

If you don't want to be without the car, you probably have no other option. Add the concern about damaging centre locks and discs, plus the risk of the repaired wheel not matching. It's your choice.

I wouldn't bother to cut corners as I don't think any of the best repairers would offer one day turnaround. The time taken to strip, repair paint and bake the wheel properly would exceed the time available. You could get a smart repair in a few hours, but don't expect longevity or perfect match. Talk to Lepsons for advice.

Actually they did offer me a loan car, I assumed that I would have to pay for that. It's not free is it??

Yes it probably is free.

Personally I'd be inclined to just buy a new wheel, have the damaged one repaired and then keep it as a spare.

Just had our Panameras diamond cut wheels refurbed. Ended up doing all four because, as had been said, it's difficult to match them. If your OPC can do it for £180, give you a courtesy car and guarantee a match then I'd go with that. As a comparison the Panameras 20" wheels were £120 each.

When I spoke to Chris a while ago, they didn't have spare centre lock wheels, but that may have changed by now.

Well I'm shocked. I never thought they'd offer me a free courtesy car for £180s worth of non warranty work.

I'm not sure I want to shell out for a new wheel right now. I think I'll have it fixed and see how it looks. If it really is a poor match I'll buy a new wheel later on.

Thank you

That's retail - no one pays that do they? My daughter has just bought a set of 4 new Pretoria 19 alloys for her Mk 7 GTI for £1500. And last year I picked up a set of new 20 inch C7 RS6 alloys AND tyres for £1600 (albeit off a delivery mileage car that owner had asked dealer to swap to after market wheels).

I doubt most people could get much off? I could have got one for 440 + vat to be fair as I know a company that gets good discount.

Those RS6 wheels and tyres were an absolute bargain!

Hi Deep,

If you can consider Herts area then give John from the Wheel Specialist, St Albans a call. Proper diamond cutting up to 21 alloy size. Quick and perfect job every time.
