Our V6 4Motion has been playing up for some while with the following symptoms:

The car will start and run after overnight...Just at lowish revs not at the typical 1200 rpm as normal at certain ambient temperatures 700 rpm when colder. However, if I turn the ignition off and then go back a few minutes later the car is a pig to start and will eventually start and run very rough indeed and smell of fuel.

If I leave it running this way for almost exactly 3 minutes, the car corrects itself and runs perfectly for the rest of the day with as many stops and starts as you want.

To date I have checked :

The fuel pump is priming...It is.
New Coolant Sensor
Cleaned throttle body
New engine vacuum pipes
New cam sensor as this was a code thrown up and my local garage said it was that, I said not as the rough running throws up all manner of codes some different each time!
New fuel filter
High quality fuel system cleaner.

The only thing that really made a difference for any appreciable time was the fuel cleaner, however, it is not long since the last cleaner and it is playing up again. I am at a loss and the only thing I can think is that the fuel pump is sticking when left overnight.

Any advice warmly welcome.

Hi, I notice you didn’t really get anyresponse on here but I don’t suppose you got to the bottom of your problem?
I have a v6 4motion with the exact same issues.
Thanks.

I have a V5 (similar engine) and in my case hard starting was cured by a new camshaft sensor.

I didn't have any of the other symptoms mentioned however.

My problem began by needing a bit of extra cranking to get it started but then gradually got worse until it wouldn't start at all...

Hi and thanks for the reply but I have no trouble starting it and it will run fine.
The problem is when I start it from cold and then turn it off before it is fully warmed up, when I restart it, it will run really rough and misfire until warm.
It definitely seems like an over fueling issue but only when cold.
