I cycle, lots - However pretty much after a heavy interval session I seem to suffer chronic headaches that can last for a couple of hours. These always coincide with hard efforts and never with steady state rides. It's not dehydration or salt levels or lack of carbs on the bike. What else could it be? I can only assume it's down to carb depletion or low blood sugars as it doesn't happen on a easier flat ride. Thoughts grateful

Purchase a glucose meter to check you sugars.

I always check mine along with my blood pressure..

Yep, I immediately thought fluid intake. Are you sure your getting enough water during exercise..?..

I got them from doing dips once and it stayed with me for a while. Apparently I'd strained my upper back muscles which actually finished at the back of my head.

Do you also unintentionally hold your breath?

I do have a glucose meter and all blood sugars are good pre and post meal, although I've never tested after a ride.

Standard 50 miles one litre of water with carb/salts, ridden this way for years. shower then protein drink, perhaps a snack. Water periodically through the rest of the day. Urine is pretty clear, so no obvious signs of dehydration.

I do have a couple of tight knots behind the shoulder blade at the moment, but it wouldn't account for previous occurances.

Climbing today.... I was breathing for two hehe

caffeine -yep
family migrane history - yep , although I've never suffered headaches at any other time
low blood sugar - felt tired on the odd occasion, but cycling a fair amount would probably do this. I did buy a glucose monitor anyway to check and day to day levels are good.
Could be this I'll rain in the caffeine for a while.
Cheers all.
