CV Joint orientation - question (Sardonicus!)

Just double checking, there is a groove machined into the outside of the cv joint housing towards one side, does this face the "outside" (i.e. hub/diff) of the assembly or the "inside" (shaft side)?

The originals were fitted with the groove facing outward, but want to be certain before it all goes back in.

As usual, any help much appreciated.
