Is there a difference...Chim 450 or Chim 4.5 litre

Wey Hay....Back to TVR after a year out but...I have had a quote from Tesco for a Chim 450 of £880. I checked on line and sleceted Chim 450 and yes £880 but there was a option to select models Chim 450 or Chim conv 2 seater 4558cc....which when selected gave a quote of £600....Is there actually a difference in models or is this a web site c**k up. (I have seen this option on several sites now)?? Any help much appreciated.

As far as I'm aware they're the same model, but sometimes they're called different things (similarly Griffith 5.0 versus Griffith 500 etc) so the insurers might have been fooled into thinking they are different models.

Options are a Chim 4.0 (or 400 or 4 litre), 4.5 (or 450 or 4.5 litre) or a 5 (or 500 or 5 litre).

There were some odd things like 4.0HC but you haven't got one of those, so you don't need to worry.

The 4558 is the regular 450 or 4.5 , the only other 4.5 is the very rare 4.5BV they made a few of these in the first year of production probably no more than 5-10 cars, i think they were 4441cc and very fast !!

AFAIK the 4.5BVs (4441cc) were only built in 93 and were only fitted into (5?) Griffs. Never heard of a Chim with that engine. NE1 on here got one?

There were a few 4.5BV chims i have seen 2 , yes they were only in the first year (93)

you might want to try priviledge, tesco quoted me over £800 but got mine from priv. for £462. peter

I have a 4.5 Chim and got the quote from Tesco on both models and opted for the cheaper of the two as has been pointed out.

Its just a bit of ignorance on the part of the insurer.
