2009 VW Golf GTD

So I'm not to sure on how interesting this thread is going to be for some, its a more door diesel Golf at the end of the day, but to me it's everything I need from a motor at the moment!
I was actually looking at replacing my 2005 SEAT Leon FR (mk1, 1.9TDi PD150) with a MK6 Golf GTi. After not being able to find one in the spec I wanted through various channels via work (I'm a car salesman so we have a few contacts) I found myself walking out onto the forecourt to be faced with this beauty. I do around 20,000 miles a year so the diesel seemed a sensible option and it was in one of my preferred colours. I know, black is so boring but I do love them when they're all cleaned up! Basically this was far too good a price to miss out on and I just had to have it, money was soon fired across into works account and the GTD was mine.

Bi-Xenon Headlamps with Auto Levelling and Cornering Function
Black Heated Leather Seats

Here's where she was parked and as she looked the first time I met her. This was November 2016.
Sorry if the pictures haven't come up! Bit of a novice with image hosting sites!
She needed a few bits of paint to get her how I wanted so as I still had the SEAT I just drove that for a short while whilst they done the paint. Also was in desperate need of a wheel refurb but wanted to leave that till the worst of the winter had gone.
I didn't really have any plans for it, it pulls well and looks good as standard so was happy just driving it around as it was. I told myself it isn't to be messed with unless the DPF goes, in which case it'll have a DPF delete and a re map to suit but I soon got a couple bits ordered for it. A four piece HEKO wind deflector set and some GTD front seat inserts which I think really suit the interior and should have always been there as a standard thing, for £12.50 I don't really know what else you could do to it.
Anyways since Christmas time it just got left like that until this Monday, I decided that the state of the wheels was ruining the rest of the car and they had to be sorted so got on the phone to Wheel Works in Bury ST Edmunds for a refurb and to fit a pair of tyres which were in need of replacement. Booked in Monday, sorted by Thursday.
Here she is the day I took her up there for the wheels to be taken off.
The guys at Wheel Works were very helpful and even gave me a set of courtesy wheels whilst mine were being done. Look at those lovely wheels!
They weren't the prettiest but they had good tyres on, I could still drive my car instead of an old motor from work and they charged no extra for the service. Bonus.
I ordered some new centre caps to complete the wheels nicely, the old ones were fairly scabby looking things.
New ones cost a whole £6.50 for a set of 4 from a fairly popular online bidding site
They aren't a horrible blue colour! Just a protective film on the top, honest!
I wanted to do something a bit different with the wheels which I wasn't sure on wether I would like or not, asked the guys to diamond cut the wheels in the correct places but spray the other spokes in a dark grey/anthracite to make them stand out a bit. To say I was quietly crapping myself when I went to pick them up was an understatement as they were fairly costly but I think they came out nicely.
Apologies for the terrible picture quality, Storm Dorris pushed me every time I was trying to take a picture and this was the best I got whilst getting cold!
So that's the story up to now. Now that I've had the wheels done I've now got an itch to get some springs/coil overs and some spacers to keep me happy but will see how we feel soon. Apart from that I'd like to get a private plate as I think they make the car look a lot cleaner and take the age away form it a bit, maybe a front splitter that has caught my eye, some Golf R/GTi LED rear lights and I may even go for that remap soon too.
I'll keep it updated if this seems to keep anybodies interest!

I know, couldn't believe my luck really! I paid £7000 for it as it stood, trade price my boss got it for. It had done 79000 miles and I'm now on around 83000. Im also unsure on the wheels though they do look better in person than in that terrible picture. I think they'll look nicer if i bite the bullet and get some spacers and a slight drop off the ride height. I do kind of wish i had them done as they were from the factory but i can't pay that money again when there's nothing wrong with it! HahaWell I think it's safe to say the award for the most boring, least looked at thread in the history of Pistonheads goes to me with this one!
This is basically the last update for this one, as after I spent all that money doing the wheels, replacement tyres, number plates, fixing the brake pad warning sensor and a couple other things, I kinda fell out of love with the car (I think it was my poor decision to change the colour of the wheels!) Something just wasn't right for me anymore so I decided to put it up for sale on Wednesday and the car was sold yesterday, returning me a tasty profit in the process so smiles all round.
I have collected my new car today, a 2009 Focus ST-2 with a mere 33,000 miles on the clock. This is my second Focus ST mk2 and the first one cost me a bloody fortune in repair costs in 6 months so why I have decided to buy another I'll never know but when the last one was running correctly it was my best friend! So I decided to give another one a chance.
With the minimal mileage, a full service history, pretty good condition throughout and a set of good tyres on I guess this one has been loved a bit so fingers crossed its a good one! Only time will tell I suppose.
I'll be making a thread for the Focus in the next couple of days for anybody who is interested in ST's.

I kind of got the feeling from the begining of this thread and from what you were saying in my mk6 GTI thread that this wasn't going to last long as it came across like you settled for the GTD rather than wanted it as you couldn't find the right GTI. I very nearly did the same out of frustration and just wanting to get a new motor.

I think it's a bit of that coupled with the fact i don't usually keep cars to long anyway. Usually 6 months at a push! I am definitely going to miss it as it was bloody lovely but nice to be back in a petrol motor again! I think i can also blame you for putting up such lovely pictures of your gti, you made me fall out of love with the gtd! Haha
Far from boring mate, i just love petrol engines that much more after shed loads of other hatches including 3 civic type r ep3's which just love to be revved! It was very competent in a straight line and round the twisties, seriously comfy on long distance journeys and my daily commute and packed with everything i wanted, i would seriously recommend these to anybody who is in the market for them. If it was the GTi i would not have thought about selling it at all i don't think. If you're in the market for one go and get a test drive done and see for yourself. Im sure you wont be disappointed!
