Hijacked Steam account
Discussion
Was feeling a bit old-school last night and fancied firing up Portal so I downloaded Steam and went to login only to discover that my password didn't work. Tried to do a password reset only to discover that the email address on my account is no longer my email!
I've opened a support ticket and eventually got a response asking for the first email address I had on my account, despite this being supplied on the ticket in the first place (in the field labeled for it!). I sent it over again any way but something tells me I'm not getting my account back am I?

same thing happened to me last week. got it back 3 days later, you have to provide proof.
My Account also got VAC banned when it was hacked and Valve dont remove the bans. Some russian hacker now has removed the ability for me to play CS:GO online. Valve claim security is the account owners responsibility, despite the fact that my email and password was leaked in a large data leak that was on the news and the my account hacked days later.
Thanks Valve

Were any of these hijacked accounts protected by Steam Guard and the like? I'm frequently (often enough that it gets a little annoying) having to re-confirm my email address and enter codes from the mobile app, but I'd like to think this makes it next to impossible for the account to be hijacked without me at least being told about it.
Or has Steam Guard been compromised as well?

Did you use Steam Guard as above? I also have login email alerts.
But I have a friend who does YouTube and that type of stuff, he has a steam account where all his games are purchased, then another 'family' account where he shares the games with, that being his online profile, so if it gets hacked then he doesn't lose anything really besides stats.

Even without Steam guard, they'd still need to confirm new logins with codes sent to your email address?
Had nothing like that through to my e-mail account so god knows how it was compromised. Steam have come back to me asking for the details of a game that has been gifted to my account, who gifted it and how they paid. I can only think of one such gifted game, it was years ago from a mate I'm no longer in touch with - I have no idea of his steam username let alone how he paid for it! So think I'm pretty much screwed
