Folks - quick query. I am searching for a flat in London and trying to find one with covered parking/garage is a nightmare. Am VERY reluctant to move away from these options, but may have to face facts that a private parking spot is at least more advantageous compared to on-street. Would then use a good quality car cover as much as possible.

Anyone on here regularly have their car on the driveway/space/street and if so, have you experienced any issues?

Kind regards - thanks for any advice.

Craig

P.s I have reviewed car cover threads so aware of the better options there - but any updated advice appreciated.

Mine has lived outside for the last two years. No problems other than having to clear the snow and ice off, oh and bird crap.

Problem with a car cover is that it tells people you love your car and like to keep it in prestine condition... and there are a lot of nasty, jealous people out there.

Good luck finding a nice flat in a nice area.

Hmm, don't usually keep the exotica outside and for good reason.

So far had the wheel of the S-class nicked, the RS4 nicked and used in a ramraid and rececntly had another car nicked and buggered up by joyriders.

Kensington & Chelsea by the way!

I think the crooks come to the nice areas as they know there will be a lot of nice motors parked up. So many people are away on bussiness/sleep early so that's when the ers strike.

Actually had someone walk up to the door and ask some dodgey questions about cars just to see who was in the house once. Saw the same loitering around later looking through car windows on the road before the rozzers got the call. Know car theif they said!

So yeah, should be alright outside

My Tuscan has lived out on the street for most of it's life, as did the Chimaera before that

In over 8 years of TVR ownership I have only had 1 git drag a key (or whatever) down the door, apart from that all has been well - bird much and leaves excepted

The insurance is more but it needn't worry you too much

only problem I have had is the dust caps being nicked (but then one of my neighbours is our "Johnny Allan")

Mine lives outside, and spends some nights parked on the street in deepest darkest Wapping. The only problems are that it can leak a bit in the rain, so the carpets need drying out every so often and various bits have been nicked dust caps, DAB aerial and front number plate). Fortunately no one has damaged the car.

I do have a cover for when it's parked on the drive, but I don't tend to use it that often as the car is usually not clean/dry enough. This is at the end of a very quiet road though - the one time I used the cover on a normal (busy) road, it was lifted up (presumably by someone wondering what was under it), and would have blown away had I not noticed.

The main problem I can see with leaving it on a street is that people generally are cr@p at parking, and you will almost certainly get bumped at some point, even if you can avoid being vandalised.

Mine has lived outside for the past 9 months and in that time a drunk has fallen off his bike onto the wing, a neighbour (equally p1ssed I suspect) bumped into the back of it in his car, and over the weekend someone tried to remove the TVR badge from the front (with a jack hammer by the look of it !). Oh, and I had my dust caps nicked within one day of bringing it home.

All of these things could have happened to it anywhere in the country as I am driving it virtually every day. They just happened to have happened outside my house. It was a calculated risk which I took with my eyes open when I bought it.

I've got a brand new, unused Leven Hood Cover that I was going to stick up in the ads if you (or anyone else) is interested. Think it was about £160+ new. More than happy to do a deal (it's still in its original delivery wrapping - never even opened... d'oh!)

Why wasn't that included in my 'box of bits'?
Academic anyway as it's safely tucked up in the garage of a night!

James - YHM re hood.

Thanks to all so far for responses - would love to get a garage/covered spot, but not much joy to date.

Geeze - you'd have the shirt off my back if it was in Zenith Blue, wouldn't ya!

Seriously - sorry - completely forgot about that; it was stashed away at my parents up North. I've found another present for you, anyway. As soon as I get a chance, I'll wrap it up and pop it in the post... trust me, it's preferable to a hood for the car (that you'd use about as much as I did!)

keep mine outside too although live away from the city and dont have to worry about jealous gits keying the car, never have any problems with starting her. even in the snow she started 1st time.

Occasional leak is more to do with my incompotent fitting of the roof than anything else... best test is when you go to buy it is to ask for a hose and run the water over it for 5 mins and then watch if it leaks!

Don't know if you were looking for product suggestions, but I've had two CoverCraft 'Noah' covers in the past for other cars, and they're excellent.
