I don't know about the other 49 views but as someone who's never locked a car that when it has a roof has one that's held in place by the world's most thiefproof material yet, velcro, I couldn't think of any sort of response that wasn't taking the piss somewhat tongue out

Interesting idea.
In the old days, credit/debit cards used a magnetic strip that your magnet would have wiped. In the days of chip + PIN perhaps carrying a strong magnet in your pocket would be less risky. Something to consider though, perhaps.

You could use this method to add extra security to your filler cap

Don't see why you would wire the boot into the door locks. I suppose you duplicate the layout but with just one lock.

Good post
I overlooked the boot lock needing to be seperate from the doors
You have just added the cost of 2 more relays to the job

On a serious note.

This looks to be similar to the mod-wise boot entry system. Not a critism.

I've not seen the mod-wise system, there is a very good chance that many circuits I come up with have been done in the past
I'm addicted to drawing circuits with relays and no doubt some of them will seem very strange

Wouldn't something like THIS be simpler/easier/quicker and save you carrying a magnet in your pocket? Only asking.

The relays and wiring could be sorted much quicker than a remote box, the reed switches could take up plenty of time depending on where they are to be fitted
The bad thing about remotes is that they do frequently fail, the bad thing about magnets is that they do lose their magnetism, the good thing about magnets is that they can be easily replaced

Got yer, "Thumbsnap" views not PH views?

Concocted a similar system for just the boot a couple of years ago on my S.

Magnet in key..................

hidden proximity or reed switch (photo taken before I hid it).

A relay, some scraps of wire and a few terminals, job done smile

I can't see the relay, is it hidden under all those crush-on terminals
How did you manage to get the circuit to work with a relay, I had to use 2 relays
I always view the large thumbsnap images so as not to miss something in a small image

You owe me 2 euro for my image views information, I only do electrical for free, don't worry about sending the money at this moment in time as I will let it add up a little and then you can post me it, in the long run it is thee that will save on postage and packing

that's the difference between "hands on" experience and doodling on Thumbsnap wink

Phillpot said he concocted it for just the boot, so only 1 relay required.

FYI the boot of the S is released by a solenoid, there is no lock to it.

Oh I see, this explains the confusion, I don't understand how phillpot could possibly relate solenoid locking with motor locking/unlocking
Then again if philpot had viewed the thumbsnap image he may have noticed that my diagram was for motor controlled locking /unlocking
In hindsight, what I should have done is post this diagram to General TVR Stuff and as mk1fan has earlier pointed out - I shouldn't have included a boot motor
"Silly me"

Anyway thank you very much for explaining on behalf of philpot
