I have had pain in my right hand - no jokes please - for over a year. It was gradually getting worse.

It is at the base of the thumb on the index finger bone. I've expected it to go away and felt a bit of a wimp when mentioning it to my doctor but when I put my hand in my jeans pocket I get a sharp stab of pain. It hurts to touch.

I mentioned it to my doctor who said, 'Mobile phone, pad and left-clicking your mouse.'

I've been using my middle finger for the phone, my left hand for the mouse and pad and the pain eased within three days. Still a bit of aggro but as I type for a living, I have to use it.

On speaking to friends I was surprised to find that three of them experience similar problems and they know of others who've had it. So if you are getting the stab of pain in your index finger, change hands.
