Hi All..

Anyone here got any info on the v8 RS4?

My cousin had one when they came out..and i just loved it..but could not afford one..

I have noticed they are between £15k - £18k with near 80k on the clock..

I am in the process of selling my Porsche 911 c2s - 3.8L rwd (350bhp) as i wanted to get an RS4.

Looking for buying advice, as i want to be ready for when i start viewing and did not want to end up with something that will cost me ££'s to put right.

Do all these cars come fully loaded? Bose, sat nav parking sensors etc? is there a list of whats included? and if there are options what are they..so that i can look out for the right one with the right options?

Also i am assuming 420bhp - can not be made any more? as its a non turbo car? not very tunable? Would be interested to hear what people have done?

How quick is the car? can i compare a 911 (non turbo) to the RS4?

Will the RS4 hold its value at this point? or maybe go up in value over the years?

My brother just bought a 2010 S4, that is stage 2 tuning..and that thing is quick..however it just looks like a normal car.

I added a £2000 exhaust to my 911, and it caused problems and eventually i gave and removed the exhaust - car is now fine...

Any help appreciated..

Sam

Hi Sam

Had mine since new - now on about 50k miles.

First step, get yourself onto rs246.com - they know their stuff over there.

Yes the majority of them came fully loaded - I think some didn't come with a sunroof, telephone dock and/or armrest but otherwise they're all similar spec-wise. Just make sure you get one with the bucket seats and flat bottom steering wheel.

Mine's been nothing but reliable; a common 'fault' is the grinding/knock you get on full lock but is widely regarded as a non-issue. However, carbon choking is also pretty standard and barely any actually hit the claimed 414bhp figures. Some people go for aftermarket inlet manifolds and fairly regular valve cleaning to prevent this.

A Milltek exhaust and a remap are worthy upgrades; Supercharger kits are available (which are hideously expensive from what i remember), which will see it up to 600+bhp. I'd think the standard car wouldn't disappoint when compared to the c2s.

I expect they'll hold their value well now. There are quite a few dogs about that have had their bucket seats nicked at some point in the past, which in some cases caused them to become Cat D as i remember seeing extortionate prices (£19,000) to get them replaced. Many are knocking about with 5+ owners at this time and have probably been ragged, so low owners would be a priority for me.

Thanks Adam for the info..will get myself on that forum..

Are you selling yours? or any plans to?

Yup looking for one with less owners - as my c2s has 5 and i had spent a fair bit on getting it back as it should..amazing how people can drive these cars and not do normal maintenance.

I had noticed some are listed with Bose and some are not...

Still unsure on color...i love the blue but black does look nice however a pain to keep clean..

This will help with most of your points: PH RS4 Buyer's Guide

Options
The car had a decent spec to begin with, but had a number of options available.

Sat Nav was option. CD radio was standard, then Nav with all the buttons, but you then had to pay extra for phone activation (with a cradle - ugly IMO) and TV activation.

Steel roof was standard, glass sunroof extra and then another sunroof with solar panel to aid battery charging.

I don't know if Xenon lights were standard, but adaptive corning was extra.
Auto dimming rear view mirror was extra.

In the UK, flat bottom steering wheel and bucket front seats were standard fit, but round wheel and electric comfort seats were a not cost option, IIRC.
I believe leather was standard, but I've seen half leather/coth on the buckets.
Optional heated rear seats, rear manual side blinds and electric rear screen blind and a cooled glove box were available.
Interior trim could be a silver alumminium-look, black piano or carbon.
Ceramic front brake were extra, as was Sport Suspension Plus (10mm lowered & stiffened suspension).

Some options can be quite rare, so pick and choose what you want but be prepared to wait if you're after a very specific spec.

Tuning
Few cars, if any, actually make the claimed 420PS (414bhp) from factory. My car had 389bhp result on a rolling road, but it still performs to Audi's claimed figures, and the top speed is actually limited to 169 mph indicated (164 GPS) rather than 155 mph.

Many owners have opted for exhaust, carbon clean, air filter and a remap. Cat back and/or free flow cats are options, made by various mainstream manufacturers - Milltek a favourite. Results can vary widely from 420-475bhp.
You can go the supercharged route - PES, MTM or VF Engineering seem to be the main players here, but it will cost the price of the car again. 600bhp achievable with this route.

Many have switched to a standard coilover suspension (usually when the DRC dampers go - a known issue). KW seem a favourite.
Anti roll bar upgrades and many different aftermarket brake disc and pad options are available.

Prices
They seem to have levelled off in the last couple of years, but who knows where it will go? They could increase as they become a Youngtimer, with fewer vehicles out there. However they could equally decrease (albeit at a slower rate) as they continue to age. Personally, I wouldn't buy a 80k miler as an investment, more a usable performance vehicle.

B8 S4 vs B7 RS4 is a comparison made on a few past occasions. RS is harder, rawer car, S4 is definitely more refined. Realistically, a tuned B8 will be faster than a stock B7. In my experience, the B7 offers more involvement and lovely sound track ears

Compared to your 911, though the RS4 won't be as precise or possibly as quick on a B-Road blast. Being 3.8, I guess it's a 997?
From experience, there isn't much between a 997 C2S in a straight line, but handling is definitely in the Porsche's favour. Show it track, the RS4 would struggle.
RWD vs Quattro when the going gets slippy, the RS4 will certainly shine, as will it's ability to swallow 3-4 passengers and luggage.

HTH. Good luck with the search!

Darren

Typically, I get 18-20 MPG. That's a mix of dual carriageway, country lanes and town/city.
Best and worst: 29 on a motorway cruise (once!), and 9 on track driving

I get around 21mpg, "mixed" driving smile

The first link of those two looks good on the face of it, but MOT history only stretching back to 2015 and 'brief' advert raise a few questions!

Liking the second one - especially if you can get them to throw a warranty in.

Thanks to iluvmercs for the more detailed post above thumbup

I won't be selling mine for quite some time - its a great car. A handful of other cars have come and gone, but I still have no desire to change the RS at all.

Good luck with the search!

That's interesting...I would think maybe a number plate change? As it's 2 owners?

Also he is a dealer...Maybe don't know how to sell cars...Lol

Will call the second one..Usually when there are no owner listed...Means 5+

To add to what others have said, common faults are:

DRC suspension failures - commonly replaced with coilovers
Aux rads corroding (these are located behind the fog lights - the surrounds can just be popped off for a visual inspection) - about £180 to sort from memory
Oil Cooler pipes corroding - I think about £500 to fix
Engine manifold flaps and exhaust flaps sticking - common fault caused by carbon build up. Carbon clean about £800

These are not cheap cars to run (in fact I was looking at a 997 over the Summer and was surprised at how cheap things were in comparison). Disks are about £600 each. A new clutch and flywheel cost me about £1600.

All that being said - I love this car! It is the only car I have owned that I've not wanted to sell after 2 years. Mine wasn't as well specced as others - the previous owner (who bought it new) specced FBSW, sat nav / CD changer and comfort seats (which I prefer as they don't hurt my back!). There's no phone prep or auto dimming mirror / auto lights. Out of all that, the only thing I miss are the auto lights. I have had a carbon clean, manifold flap delete and stage 2 remap - it was putting out 424bhp after that (before it was about 375bhp). To get any more would mean spending circa £15k on a supercharger kit.

By a lot of modern cars standards, these aren't as quick - they are big and heavy. However, the noise they make is fantastic. The handling due to the quattro is great. If you get a good example you will enjoy it. If you buy a dog you wil lregret it (and possibly end up bankrupt!)

You might want to consider deleting those links to the Autotrader site, or at least redoing them but using a false postcode.

I now know where you live. And that you're thinking about buying an RS4...

If it's not an Avant in Sprint Blue with bucket seats and FBSW....it's not an RS4 smile

Great cars. Buy one after reading up on rs246.com.

Going to see it tomorrow - the 1st one.

It was on a private plate hence MOT is not showing past 2015 when the owners changed.

he said he had dealers contact him as they wanted to put it on show...not sure how true this is or just a selling techinique...

price is negotiable only little -

Blue 2006 up for £17k with 76k on the clock..

Went to see this:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-RS4-Saloon-4-2-2006...

front end resprayed - the silver grill also had blue paint on it as it looked like it was sprayed while on the car..

Needed new front pads and discs - had cheap tyres on..so there a £2k spend already..

Checled the valve in the exhaust when the car was off..one was open the other closed..?

Sport button did nothing - Sport mode did come up on the speedo cluster..

when i pointed that out theguy said he has no idea and thought the seat buttons on the sides make the seat move... lol

anyway..did not seem he wanted to sell the car..made no effort whatsoever..

Looks like those two have had a front end repair/replacement of some sort on them at some point.

The bonnet line should shut tight against the top of the front grille and also down the two sides, the bonnet should meet the bumper with minimal gaps.

http://www.asmperformance.co.uk/used-AUDI-A4-Milto... the N/s headlight is not seated properly.

Of course, they may have just had the front end off for engine repairs etc as i thinks there are some drive belts behind it.

Thing is, with the last being made in 2007, even that will soon be a ten year old car so unless you have a dedicated owner (like the above poster), it could to be a long search.

As long as you go in with your eyes open (as you have already done), one will turn up eventually!

Seen about 6 RS4's all had been sprayed some were real bad..

Just found a car not too far from me..

It has 1 previous owner in the UK and near 80k on the clock @ £16.5k in the blue I want.

Car was imported from Ireland. Never bought an imported car before, as history is unknown..

However seller says the car came with a proper Irish checks they do, and it has 2 owners in Ireland and book is also stamped for service..

Any thoughts?
