I want to buy a fast-ish car
Discussion
Im thinking about buying a 2008 audi a5 3.0 tdi Quattro. Problem is i recently got 6 points on my driving licence for speeding. i have always been a named driver on my mums motability car therefore i dont have any no claims but i do have over 8 years claims free driving. I checked insurance for the audi and its nearly 2500 to insure on my name. Im 28 and live in east london. What can i do about this insurance situation? Alternatively what car can i get which does 0-60 in around 7 secs wont cost a fortune to insure. My budget is around 7000. Before someone says why was i speeding in a motability car, i wasn't it was in a hire car.
Thanks

Firstly call the insurance companies & explain that you were the named driver on another policy this will help a bit, but you must have been really moving to get 6 points in one sitting.
Secondly do you need a diesel? You can buy a petrol for less.

Either that or buy something more insurance friendly & start building up you no claims, they're really the only answers.

£2500 in your twenties isn't too bad tbh, I know someone that pays more than that for a Fiesta ST.
It's fairly bad, I've never paid anything like that. My highest ever premium was £1700 at 22 for a Mercedes 560 SEC. That said, living in London won't do your premiums any favours.I would suggest looking at some different cars and getting quotes for them. I'm just guessing but I imagine the A5 3.0td has a fairly high risk rating whereas something a bit more 'old man' like an E320CDI Avantgarde might be lower. I insured a 345bhp A6 4.2 FSI Quattro for ~£600 when I was 25, presumably because it's a car just not crashed by young drivers very often.
