Why do people indulge in affectations? To impress? I always reckon they look like s.
Here's a few to get started.

Glasses worn on the head - often with another pair actually worn properly.
Glasses on the end of the nose and looking over them.
Girls. Head on one side when a photo is taken.
Those blessed/cursed with multiple chins - keeping the main one pressed down to emphasise the wobbly ones.Odd.
The selfie pout.
Loud affected laugh (usually in a restaurant) braying like a donkey with the head thrown back.

Perhaps you would like to add your own and even explain why people do this?

Glasses on end of nose for me, as varifocals aren't all that. It's the only way I can read small print in dodgy light now.

That's a sign of submission. "Here's my neck, the most vulnerable part of me. I trust you with it. Take me."

I've worn varifocals for many years. The cheap ones are crap. Good ones like the Nikon are brill, you wouldn't know you were wearing them!

How cheap is cheap? I paid £350 for mine, and I suspect that that's the cheap end.

I must admit to the 'glasses on the head' thing, got into the habit as kept mislaying them when working. Also sunglasses but only when entering multi-storey car parks.
The affectation that really boils my p**s though are the attention w****s who insist on coughing/sneezing at full bloody volume.

Smokers who tap their cigarettes on a table/surface before lighting up like some kind of 1920s Gatsby gangster.
Does it bring much to the experience? I've got a hipster mate who does it.

As stated the glasses on the nose thing is to do with varifocals or standard reading glasses.

What I don't get is this hand on hip thing for a photograph. There's a girl I used to work with and every picture I see of her in Facebook she has her hand in her hip with her bent elbow sort of facing the camera.

Why?

My Dad did this when I was a child. He was a Docker, not remotely interested in appearances and would do it even when indoors with nobody to see it. It's probably just a learned habit.

Who the hell gets offended because someone else has cack eyesight?

I have astigmatism. My mother is very short sighted. If I shared her st-eye, I'd need 2 pairs of glasses. If I had 2 pairs of glasses to wear all of the time, life would be st. If life became st, and I had to choose between a pair of glasses on the head and wear a pair, or those god awful strings to hang glases, I'd be so depressed about either I'd cease to care. No-one wears glasses out of choice, wearing glasses sucks dicks.

One of my colleagues is a glasses on nose type of guy. He needs them for reading. Varifocals pissed him off because he had to bend his neck back to look at a screen at the right height. He looks over them unless reading. If he's reading more he pushes them up the nose.

Not sure that makes him a ?

Pout on facebook is fine to hate. As are selfie people.

The reason for doing this is that the tobacco in some brands of cigarettes is loosely packed (L&M are particularly bad IIRC), so if you're an 'aggressive flicker' then the red-end will fall off when flicking your ash.

I hate seeing people smoking whilst holding their cigarettes between their thumb and forefinger like some kind of wannabe hard man/farmer Giles/pie-key blend.

I wear glasses on the end of my nose so I can read, and varifocals are horrible things, I got the most expensive pair I could find, tried them for a few days and gave them back.

Why?

Because no matter where you look - something is out of focus, horrible.

I need 2 pairs of glasses, Normal ones for driving and normal life, reading ones for reading. At work I need both. Sometimes my spares are in a shirt pocket, sometimes on my head. It's a pain, but so is not being able to read. So is being called a cxxt by some knob head who hasn't got a clue.

I worked with a girl who used to flick her long hair out of the way of her ear to answer the phone, until I pointed out she was flicking her hair away from her left ear, but holding the phone up to her right!

I need glasses for reading and laptop and just about for TV but not for greater distance.

Varifocals cover my needs for the first two but distort distance. First propped them on my head, but dropped too many pairs. Now wear them on a cord round my neck.

You may see it as an affectation, but I see it as practical.

Basically, I don't care what you think!

I am short sighted so wear contacts and can read a numberplate at many, many yards.

However, due to being a smidge over 40, my lamps don't do a great job of close focus.

Hence I wander round Aldi, Lidl, Harrods, Fortnum & Mason, etc., with my Costco ready readers on the end of my nose enabling me to read the shopping list and the labels on the goods.
