I'm in a total panic now. I have a Giant MTB, and I'm pretty sure the bars are more than 700mm wide. Will I be killed to death out on the trails because of this? Who knows, but those crazy Aussies sure ain't takin' any chances...

Aussies can be split into two groups

The health and safety obsessed and the completely bonkers risk takers. There is nobody in the middle.

Hanging out with the second group is much more fun.

Nope, I believe they're also one of the few places in the world where you have to wear a helmet by law.

If you want to see a Nanny State on steriods.....Australia. It's completely out of control. There is no such thing as personal responsibility anymore. If it's slightly risky (ergo fun) then it's illegal here.

Worst place in the world for car mods too.

This is true. And there was serious debate (and I'm not joking here...this is how silly it's become) about making joggers wear helmets!

Worse than Switzerland and France? I actually wouldn't be surprised.

I remember from my trip that the Police had no issue setting up speed gun sniper positions and road blocks to catch drink drivers.

I've heard of them wearing face paint camo hiding in bushes! Not joking! An instance of this was photographed and widely reported.

They have also used speed cameras on bike paths to catch speeding cyclists. Again...not joking.
