Going to buy a Z4 Coupe. Proportionally I think they are stunning and the wife likes the idea too! Wife wants auto and I am ok with that. It would be my 5th car so maybe 3 to 5k miles pa. I wanted to ask the combined PH family ( disjunction all at times) what should I look out for. SE more comfort than Sport? Worn seats don't scare me if price is right as I like the idea of having a retrim in a saddle coloured leather. I know springs can be consumables and is there a vanes issue? Any help would be great fully received. It also helps that I think this is a future classic.

Head over here and have a quick read - http://z4-forum.com/forum/

Lots of similar questions being asked and plenty of helpful owners driving

There's also a few for sale by some forum members.

I've had mine for a year and it's used as a daily driver and it's been pretty good fun smile

The 3.0SI is the one to go for, it's a great engine.

Rear springs are a weak point but relatively inexpensive to fix.

They're a very, very reliable car.

Bought mine in September and I have put about 5k miles on it. Went in for it's Inspection II last week. As noted above, one of the rear springs had gone on mine so these are worth checking as they are a known weak point.

As above, that forum is a great place to start. I would definitely recommend a Sport as the seats are much nicer. It's worth trying to find one with the options that you want as they don't command much of a premium and there are some nice ones out there. I wouldn't bother with nav but I think parking sensors and cruise control are a must. Post 2007 models have an AUX socket, but this can be retrofitted.

I bought at the top end of the market and perhaps overpaid slightly but I picked the right one for me!

They are about as practical as you can get for a 2 seater mine even averaged 37mpg over 100 miles at 70mph this week. I use mine as a daily driver.

I can't think of anything else that can compare in that price bracket and love mine. Let me know if you have any questions as I did a lot of research before buying!!

Thanks all, been on Z4 forum. I must read my post carefully in future, vanes is vanos , I meant " disfunctional family". The spell checker made mistakes for me. These remind me of Cobra Daytonas , early TVRs even GT6 proportionally and imho more attractive than the roadster. Love the crease in the roof. I do though seem to have a thing for straight 6s ......must be that book I found 35 years ago as a teenager " The Joy of Six" I think that was the title
