Hello,

Had a query, no doubt happened to many a Porsche owner.

Car been parked up for a month or so. Go to start it, dead as doornail. had to do the old donor battery trick to open luggae up and get a the battery. Its dead, bust. Ido use a Porsche Ctek trickle charger. But I find batteries just tend to die after a couple of years.

Anyway bought a new one. But didn't go for the Porsche OEM one 999.611.080.00, as fed up with them dying as had 4 in 10 years. So fancied a change, this is my fifth.

So got a Duracell one with a 5 Year Warranty. Its still 80ah, identical physical size and shape etc. It is a different in cranking amps though, much higher, not sure if that matters, never mattered on my motorbike. In fact it was better on my bike as started a lot better.

However it doesn't have a Vent, apparently because modern batteries don't need them. So just left the tube unplugged.

What does everyone think about this?

They are probably failing to be fair as tend to park up car for a while then use it in spirts. Not blaming Porsche OEM, just fancied a change.

Richard

My replacement Bosch has a vent. Duracell recommend venting due to the risk of explosion. Odd that they haven't provided a vent. Have you checked the middle of the battery, rather than the ends?

Will have a vent to air not to a connected tube.

I recently changed over my Bosch which I have put into another car and bought new OEM BMW battery. Both have vents and tube connected.

Interesting, went on Duracell website. They say my car should be 100ah. Yet I took out a 80ah. So,replaced with a 80.
They say the batteries are vented.

So looked again. On same side as old battery is a blocked hole. About half the size of my old battery hole and it's blocked. With a a white cap. Doesn't look designed to be removed. + side that is.

Then on opposite side ( - side ) is a tiny open hole. About halve size of old batteries hole so the battery vent hose doesn't fit in it anyway. Would need a much smaller plastic adapter.

I will email Duracell and ask them.

Generally batteries have a vent either side as they can be fitted in both LHD/RHD configurations. The white plug can be pulled out with a pick and your existing vent will likely be able to fit.
