Rebuilt MGA breathing heavily

Hoping someone can help here - we've got an MGA with a motor that's been freshly rebuilt. It seems to run well but is losing a fair amount of oil out of the breather. Also seems to be heading toward overheating when run round town but no issue when out of town.

Thanks, will certainly look into a PCV although that doesn't explain why it's breathing so heavily in the first place.

Have you done a compression test ?.

Does sound as if there is a build-up of pressure in the crankcase.

I can recommend Peter too. He worked on a head for my Riley 1.5. He did a great job and is very knowledgeable.

20+ years ago someone I knew had a 1970 MGB with the same problem. It stank of crankcase fumes but went well. Its was the CCV system - once sorted it was fine and used the usual BL pint of oil/1000 miles.

MGA doesn't have CCV though. It should just be a breather out the top of the rocker cover.
